This has been such a shit day.

Last night, I suddenly felt that there was something off with one of my teeth, like it was missing a neat piece. Okay, fine, I hate dentists but when there's a piece of my tooth missing, I can't really avoid going. I assumed I had a filling come loose and went in to get it fixed early this afternoon.

...except, it may not have been a filling in the first place, but instead the tooth just randomly decided to cave in. It was my last upper molar on the right, and apparently the wisdom tooth next to it was also infected. GREAT. So they were just gonna give me a root canal then and there and remove the wisdom tooth.

Just, you can't do that with me. I have a minor heart condition and I'm very susceptible to bacterial infections. Or well, not susceptible, just if bad bacteria from the mouth get into my bloodstream the results could be really, really bad (sepsis, endocarditis, DEATH). I have to take 2-3 grams of antibiotics at least an hour before any tooth operations that involve blood. This usually saves me from any nasty surprise operations.

This time, unfortunately, the dentist said they really have to do it today period, so just handed me antibiotics and told me to come back in an hour. I spent an hour getting panicky about it (thank you so much, tanssija, for support) but I didn't really have a choice. Went back in, and the dentist had decided that there's no point doing a root canal because it will likely fail anyway, so they'll just take out both problem teeth.

In the end, it actually wasn't that bad. I've had some dozen teeth removed when I was a kid, and I had braces two separate times. It's only made me hate dentists. >.> This one, however, actually believed me when I explained I have VERY sensitive teeth and a great tolerance for the most commonly used local anaesthetic. So she used an anaesthetic that is usually reserved for when they have to actually cut out teeth (instead of just pulling them out) and, for the first time in my life, I actually didn't feel any pain at the dentist.

So now I have a huge hole and a few stitches in my jaw. It stopped bleeding a while ago, thankfully, and now I can eat, even if only liquid stuff - I hadn't had anything to eat when I went in, because I just expected to be there for ten minutes! Heavy-duty painkillers (which I uh, already had anyway) and a week of strong antibiotics. And I feel kind of like an ass for complaining about all this, what with what a guildmate is going through right now but. >.>

I plan to console myself today with skating, more skating, Johnny Weir picspams, Johnny Weir riding a yak on national television (YES FOR SERIOUS), and hopefully some skater fic which someone better be throwing my way. Okay?

health, skating
