SXSW Update: Thursday

[hey kids]

I had to cut this into two entries b/c I would have rambled on in on in one. So here we go.

Thursday

Veronica came and picked me up from work. She was trying to catch She Wants Revenge, I, Mates of State again. UNfortunately we didn't read the fine print when we went to Factory People. They were DJ sets and not performances. We wasted an hour. So we went to Waterloo to see if we could catch the second half of The Go! Team.

The band before them cancelled so they played early. We made it right after their set. We were both pissed three hours and no shows. We went back to Congress to catch the Ponys.

Zykos
It was hard to find parking even w/ V's handicap pass. The Ponys show looked packed and by that point we were starving so we went to the pizza place across the street. We got a couple of slices and saw Zykos play there. I enjoyed seeing them at the Mates of State show last year so I wasn't disappointed to see them again. We ate are pizza and sat and watched them perform. i forgot how poppy they can be, but I liked it. I was a little delirious from the heat so I can't really give you more on their show.

V dropped me off at work to get my car and I went home for about an hour. Then to Victory Grill to see Lady SOV.

Lady Sovereign
I got there at 7p, when they were suppose to play. There was sound troubles apparently all day there. I took them about an hour to fix it. Finally Lady Sov started performing but the sound cut off. They tried it again a couple more times and finally got it to work. Everyone was so pissed and drunk from waiting, I swear there could have been a riot. The performance as very comical but enjoyable. She really can't sing well, but still worth seeing. During the last song the sound cut off again near the end, so I left.

I was afraid I was going to miss my headliners that night b/c the delay at the Lady Sovoreign show. I hauled ass across town to get to Austin Music Hall.

Morrissey
I didn't think I was going to get in so quickly, but I showed up ten minutes into their set. I had a good view and enjoyed the show. I love Morrissey but I wasn;t dying to see him. Though he did sing some Smiths songs. A lot off people left after them So I got close to the front.

Goldfrapp
There was a "special guest " to play b/w Morrisey and Goldfrapp but it really was nobody. It was more of an hour wait for the set up and ran into Hannah and Jarrod again. By the time Goldfrapp performed I was front and center. And there she was Alison Goldfrapp, right in front of me, no more than 5 feet away (damn that barrier). Illuminated by lights, in her tight black jeans and top, her silver sparkling platform heels, her multi-tonal pink cape(?), flipped blond locks, and eye glitter, I was in awe. Sorry to sound gay, but she was a goddess. The performace was phenominal. If I wasn't slightly boxed in I would have danced my heart out. To top things off the encore was even better than their set. They played my favorites songs. I didn't want it to be over. BEST IN SHOW!!!

So the show ended earlier since there was no one playing b/w Morrissey and Goldfrapp. So I had 15 monutes to find a headlinging show at some other venue.

The Gossip
I got into my car and hauled ass again to get to Emo's. I parked in my secret spot and got in line just as The Gossip started playing. Five minutes later I was in the crowd. I wasn't ending my dance night w/ Goldfrapp. Man, I never heared The Gossip live. They owned. The lead singer made it better w/ her sassy commentary about music industry fucks and her personal problems. Shit I danced so fucking muchat their show. I loved it that I wasn't the only one.

Tomorrow morn it starts all over again. At least this time I get to sleep in a lottle seeing how I got the weekend off work. More recaps to come.
