I refuse to believe that the reference went past you, so I'm going to go ahead and fantasize about what kind of superpowers Aloysha will turn out to have. Ones he will use against Bob Barker. If powers so powerful even exist. Perhaps ones arising from radioactive super-rocks? That'd be ultra-sweet.

Your comment has been the death of you this time: It wasn't addressed to you at all. That's why it wasn't sent to you. You jerk.
Also, I prefer to think of the hunting-in-the-forest format as an elaborate game in and of itself (which is certainly how Zaroff treated it), in which the person playing is almost coincidentally hunting game. Also note that the comment I was paraphrasing included the word 'playing'. Is that explanation enough for you, sir?
People are generally worse than fire. And a lot less reliable.

I hope the real monster turns out to be man himself, or the human condition, or something.

Don't get me wrong. I love people. But they're generally unreliable and not to be trusted. Oneself especially.
So I hope the real "monster" turns out to be Alyosha himself - someone he thought he understood but didn't.
I guess we'll all find out soon enough.
