Looking for Love

In case anyone has missed it...I want a dog.  Not just any dog but my dog.  I have not had a dog of my own since ... well, forever.  Aahz was my dog, and when he died Michael was still a teenager.  Long time ago.  Since then the kids have had dogs of their own:  Lorien had Aahz, Caitlin rescued Redbone, and Ashley got Meg. It has been plenty to keep the house full of four footed love but now I really would like to find MY dog.
Today I started really looking.  Well, actually, the search began in earnest at the Pit Bull Rescue, Adopt Meet last weekend (when I missed out by just a hair on getting my girl) but today I went out and met all the lovely pits the local groups have found for me.
A LOT of lovely dogs.  Every one of them touches your heart, because they don't deserve to be lost and alone in a kennel.  They want to be home, with their people, forever.
I met an adorable and gorgeous little Staffie named Sammie who is so alone and afraid and confused.  She is just beautiful!  I hope someone finds this exquisite little lady and takes her home.
I cuddled a mushy 6 month old pup with the cutest face and only half a tail (why do people cut their dog's tails off like that?) She was all playful puppy and so precious.  Babies like Dessi (Desiree) need homes not a shelter.
And I met a little powerhouse who gives serious smooches, shakes with either paw, and apparently only understands Spanish (lol!) named Remy.
Not sure any of them are 'my' dog...not the way I was sure the second I saw Babygirl at the Pitbull meeting... although I keep thinking about Dessi.  But she is still young and surely someone will want to love her...
Maybe it isn't time yet.  Red and Meg have some good years ahead of them and Red really 'thinks' he is my dog.  Still, it would be nice to have a younger dog around.  Red and Meg are getting older, and it would be just too sad to lose them and not have anyone left.

I'll think about it some more.

The dang mockingbird is back to singing all night.  He missed a couple of nights.  I thought HOORAY! he has found a mate.  Maybe he did and this is a new one?  Whatever...the singing has resumed. LOUDLY.  All night.

The raccoon is back too.  Sitting in the live oak again.  I wonder if he really does live in that big hollow way up there.  He doesn't mind the kids or the dogs, or bother my trash can, so he is welcome to stay.

Found a GORGEOUS turtle today too.  Just crossing the road.  BIG, I mean two handed, size of a football BIG slider!  Imagine how old she must be?  Her shell was in perfect shape, and coated in a thick layer of algae.  Her eyes were big and bright.  Just a beautiful thing.  I picked her up out of the road and carried her back to her pond.  Hated to let her go, I have so missed having my turtles.  But a turtle that age deserves to live out her life in the place she obviously knows and loves.  Soon as I set her down she zoomed into the thick pond plants and immediately found a 'trail' through the growth that let her get right down into the water.  No question she knew where she was.  Wonderful.

It has been a beautiful day.
