The head of the industrial engineers asked me today for a list of hours on all line reworks.
He wanted to see what the average number of hours was for the work done. My calculations showed 15 hours each.
He wanted the total to be 8.
Later, he explained that he was going to throw out any that were “Huge”, and any that were below 1, and that he guessed that it would be closer to 8. His final answer was 10.
At that point I suggested that if he threw out anything that wasn’t “eight”, he could get the average to “8”.
He just rounded the ten down to eight. It is amazing how he could so accurately have guessed eight without my having even sent the data!
