I've started studying for the CPA exam in earnest after just talking about doing it (and avoiding it) for a while. I'm starting with Audit & Attestation. It's going okay so far, but I'm still really intimidated, not even gonna lie. I haven't signed up for any sections yet even though my Dad keeps pushing me to. We'll see how it goes ( Read more... )

Radhika...RAH-THEE-KAH

I would never think to pronounce it that way... heh... I guess a lot of that comes from the "American" way of learning how to read, when you parents or teachers say, "Sound it out!" And you just go from one letter's pronunciation to the other. Plus, I think that when you learn how to "sound it out", even when you get a lot older (years and years), and you come across a word/name/etc that is not familiar to you, that's what you automatically do in your head - and I'm sure a lot of people pronounce it Rahd-Hee-Kah or something similar to that. That's probably why so many people cannot pronounce that name. Or at least that's what I would guess.

Yea, people getting it wrong on the first try when I haven't told them how it's pronounced doesn't bother me. It's when they continue to get it wrong even after I explain it in detail, haha.

Ah yes, I know what you mean about that! I have problems with people who do that, too. Frustrating!!

I cry when I'm pissed off too, and I hate it because it keeps people from taking me seriously.

At first glance, I would probably pronounce it RAH DEE KAH, but after being corrected it wouldn't be hard to pronounce at all. People mispronounce my last name all the time, which baffles me. It's Wegman. WEG MAN. Not hard, but people always pronounce it Wedge Man. Or Wage Man. Where the hell does that come from?

Radhika is such a beautiful name. I would call a daughter radhika but because I'm pretty vanilla/Irish I think I would come off as a poser :(
