Tenor Viol

My new Tenor Viol (viola da gamba) arrived! It was made in China and carefully packed. It is quite a bargain, but arrived (as expected) unstrung and not set-up. So I still have to order strings for it and have a violin shop set the bridge and soundpost.

Until then, I won't know how it sounds, but it is much easier for me to support than the bass that I have, and it is a much more comfortable reach for me at the fingerboard.

I had a long goodby with Charles this morning as he heads back to William & Mary for his sophomore year. He is planning to learn two years' worth of Japanese in one academic year. I wish him luck, because I think he'll need it, but I also believe that he can succeed.

My classes start on Monday, and I am ready for everything except the early wake-up (5:30 AM).

Anyone need a bass viola da gamba?
