I'm sorry! It has been a couple of months since I have read friends' pages. It is good to catch up. I am now teaching four days a week and have Fridays off. I have almost recovered my strength from the exhaustion of Faire and actually have a little free time.
Tonight Charles and I are doing a magic show for the inmates at the Juvenile Detention Center in the city. It is part of Episcopal City Mission's June birthday party. We haven't done a magic show since last year's ECM birthday party and so we have some organizing and rehearsing to do.
Fortunately we only have to go 20 minutes and we have the time today to put things together.
We will do Torch to Rose, Water Vanish, Saw the Volunteer in Half, Chinese Sticks, Peanut Butter & Jelly, and Comedy Knife Throwing. I am too out of practice to do Snake Basket, and I don't think that either the Chain Escape or the Guillotine would be appropriate under the circumstances. I'll do the Hot Book trick if I can find the props.
It's hard to stay in practice when you just do one or two shows each year, but it's hard to do alot of shows when there is so much else going on in your life (my life?): Ren Faire, Pirate Fest, working overtime, teaching MAPA & LAPA, singing in choir, singing recitals, and I have--after many years' absence--taken up painting again. Next year, at Faire, I want to really paint as Leonardo. And my harp is sitting in my dining room shouting "Play me!"
It's too much and it's my own fault.
But I'm back!
