So, I was thumbing through a new cook book I picked up (
Everyday Food) there was a recipe for a beef version of
Vietnamese Sandwiches.
I showed the recipe to Mark and noted that the beef in question was to be grilled and hey, look at that - we have a grill. He grumbled that while it could be good, it's not the same - plus the recipe didn't list pickled veggies as the original does. After a few minutes of keyboard clattering and various mutterings of the lack of a good sandwich shop, Mark said, "You have to come here, Right. Now."
Apparently, he was wrong. 20 minutes away was a Vietnamese sandwich shop and as we soon discovered, it was nestled between 2 Vietnamese restaurants. There was also a very crowded hispanic grocery store and across the street was another sandwich shop, pho shop and a few other places that probably had amazing food too.
I'd show pictures but the sandwiches didn't last long. We were one of the last patrons for the day (we got in right before the staff started cleaning up, phew!) and had to wait about 15 minutes or so as the last batch of bread was still baking. No problem there! I can definitely wait for fresh bread. The food was, as expected, fantastic and cheap. At $2.25 for a sandwich it's worth the drive. They also carry a really fantastic mango smoothie, always a plus in my book.
I'm thinking we have a new Sunday outing.
