I seem to have been born without a sense of smell. That is to say, I don't ever remember being able to smell anything. Not flowers, not food, not garbage, not skunks. Nothing. I have not only never met anybody with this condition, nobody I know has ever met anybody with it either. Nevertheless I'm not alone, as I discovered for the first time ( Read more... )

Very true. I feel for the most part that it's come in handy for me to be without it - especially in my current job, where it enables me to function in circumstances where strong men would crumble. ;-)

I feel the same way as you do about the textures of food. I really enjoy combining textures in the concoctions I come up with for myself in the same way that others would enjoy combining flavors. Although I don't find mac and cheese to be objectionable slimy - just whipped cream, buttercream, pudding, yogurt, any kind of pie filling, or any kind of cooked fruit. Slimy, ugh!

And now that I think about it, you can add to that list both oatmeal and cream of wheat - both of which my mom tried in vain to get me to eat throughout my childhood. No, thanks!!!!
