My first semester of graduate school - and thus my first semester of any kind of school since spring '05 - is over. It went well I have to say. I met a number of cool new peeps, learned/re-established some things in my finance class, and feel pretty good about what my final grades will be (they haven't been posted yet). A victory. There were some busy, stressful times to be sure (particularly in October and during the past week and a half) but it felt good to know I can balance all these things. I feel like I have a pretty good balance overall right now, it also felt good to be using my outside of work time for something productive.
Still... the stir-crazys are happening a bit early this year. Not unlike January '09, my ass-bound cubicle existence has lead to a counterbalancing bit of the 'ole wanderlust. I think I've mentioned it previously in this space: Turkey is the next destination. And it is absolutely going to happen. It's either going to be late May/early June or last/August early September. The former pair is better for class purposes, but I am going to have to work this around my team leader's trip to Hong Kong (I think it is around this time, and at least one of us has to be covering at work). There is also late budget concerns... but I'll find a way to fit it in somewhere. Since I'm in study mode with nothing to study for, I've begun pouring over my guidebooks.
I also decided to poke around the old LJ entries for some reason today. Damn! Lots'o the college kid angst in those pages. I'm glad I got it down though, and that it's still around. I'm not one to stop a party to take pictures, and it's good to have a record of thoughts and events, even through the selective medium of journal entries."Embarrassing" applies to a lot of it - but also really doesn't. It would be embarrassing if I was writing some of that stuff today, but back then I was just a kid trying to figure stuff out. A lot of it is pretty funny.
I'm also seeing that quite a few journals have been "purged" by now (gotta love the Stalinesque ring there) which is kind of too bad, but I guess makes sense if you're not one who checks this regularly and don't want to have stuff hanging out there on the internet (I myself have long since "purged" the circa-2007 time capsule that was my MySpace). Many thanks to those of you still soldiering on with your LJs.
And in the everyday file, I'm heading up to Clifton Park soon to celebrate my Dad's 60th(!) birthday, which is pretty much the only December holiday that I'm caught up on shopping-wise. Between that, shopping, and football I'm looking to have a relatively sober and normal weekend. Probably.
