Oh, Hello

Apr 27, 2010 16:49

I am back with you. A lot and not much has happened since I last wrote in this guy. It has really been more the case that some inchoate ideas have solidified.

-I have indeed applied to Grad School. For Public Admin, finance or health finance concentration depending on the program that I go with. I applied to both Albany State (for practical reasons) and NYU (for vague, romantic reasons). Really, at this point NYU is going to have to throw me a lot of money and declare me emperor of a city block to get me to give up my job (which I will keep staying in Albany) and go down there, but I thought I would at least throw my hat in the ring. I am looking forward to this no matter where I go.

-Some time ago I wrote an entry on life's "4-year periods" or somesuch, and I was thinking about that notion again recently. Post-college was really a 5-year period for me. The first year I spent actively going back to Geneseo as often as possible. The next two I sept wistfully missing it. Only the last two years have I really been like, "I got this." And I'm glad I waited a bit to go back to school, get my shit together. I'm looking forward to the next phase.

-It's time for another vaguely-defined summer of action! No big Belize/Guatemala/Steelers (ug) game trifecta for me this year. For both financial (grad school!) and planning (will this budget ever actually be done?!) reasons I don't have any big trips in the works. I would like to do a number of smaller trips to places where I know people (our nation's capital!) and ESPECIALLY to do more outdoors activities. This will be the Summer of (Outdoors) Action.

-To that end, I have already gone camping! This past weekend I went on a great excursion with Justin and some of his friends up to Pharoah Lake, roundabouts Schroon Lake. Lots of tromping around the woods, boats, fire, and meat. Mankind's natural state. I'm going to try to work in lots more hiking, fishing with the Pa, and perhaps(!) the purchase of a kayack so that I can still go go go even when the knees have had enough hiking.

-I've only gotten a few 2010 albums, and so far Titus Andronicus is far and away my fave. Think Trail of the Dead mixed with stories about New Jersey and worked around Civil War metaphors. It works way, way better than it should. Goldfrapp's latest was a huge disappointment for me. It's much, much too 80's - and I'm saying that as someone whose tastes have become much more friendly to that lately. Yeasayer's 2nd album wasn't mind-blowing but it was encouraging in that the group was definitely not trying to re-write their first album.

-Looking forward to Caps/Habs Game 7 tomorrow. I'm going to go ahead and say that Montreal wins, because that magic appears to have worked in my last entry.
