Star Wars and The Writer's Tale

So this is possibly the most amazing thing I have ever seen:

I love Doctor Who. I love Star Wars. I love Doctor Who characters playing with lightsabers and Star Wars characters talking about Time Lords. It's awesome! The only thing that could have made it better is if Rose or Donna were in it, but as it stands it is still pretty good. Be sure to watche the credits!

Also, for my birthday last month I received The Writer's Tale: The Final Chapter. This was a surprise to me, because I didn't even think to put it on my list, but I am so happy I got it. I used to go and flip through it at the bookstore so I thought my mom had seen me doing that and decided to get it for me, but apparently her thought process was more like, "Oh, this is about Doctor Who, I BET SHE WILL LOVE IT!" LOL.

Anyway, it's been several weeks and I still haven't finished it, although that is mostly because it is smegging huge and hard to carry around with me. (I get a lot of reading done on the bus.) I am very close to being done though. It's very interesting (and a little weird) to see the different ways they planned on taking the show that ended up not happening.

Like, take Penny Carter. She was supposed to be the season 4 companion until RTD realized that they could get Catherine Tate back, and apparently, was supposed to be a new love interest for the Doctor. "Under all this is my need to write The Doctor In Love again," wrote Davies (pg 39). He goes on to say that, "He'd never fall in love with Martha, because he can't just love the next woman to walk through the door after Rose. That would cheapen the whole thing." Um. So apparently the only reason the Doctor didn't fall in love with Martha was because she was unlucky enough to come directly after Rose... anyone after Martha is fair game. Okay. "The first time that the Doctor sees Penny, it should be like- wham! Both hearts." Love at first sight. You know, I don't think even Nine and Rose fell in love at first sight, no matter how romantic it sounds, they had to get to know each other first.

What's even weirder is that at the time of his writing this, he had already planned Rose's return at the end of the season. So I'm really curious as to how that would have turned out... Rose coming back to find the Doctor in the arms of another woman? I can just imagine the jealousy, and possibly the catfights. I am pretty sure I would not enjoy that episode half as much as I did shipper!Donna and the romantic run into each other's arms (interrupted by a Dalek, of course). Anyway, that conversation the Doctor had with Donna about not wanting things to be complicated anymore, just looking for a friend... that felt a lot more true to his character and I honestly think it worked out better.

Anyway, there's a lot more I want to talk about from this book but I have to go to work soon, so I'll save it for another post. ;)
