So there's this little tv system in the elevators here at work. Pretty sure it's a nationwide program in office buildings across the States, because it will flash pictures people took through their office windows, and display "tweets from the top" from Executives who feel they have some pretentious advice to tweet to the mere mortals of the world.
It also flashes news headlines, local weather, celeb gossip, trivia, vacation photos people submit, etc.
It makes those thirty seconds of waiting to get to the ground floor that much more interesting. Also, I swear, lately that's the only place I get my news from because I have become a lazy citizen. I digress. (The stock exchange lost many points today? Ohhh nooo I still don't care.)
Today, I decided to have breakfast! Very exciting. It's been a while. Got my coffee, and then left the office to go to the cafe downstairs. Now, as it gets closer to St. Patrick's Day, and this being the Ides of March and whatnot, a lot of the elevator's tv thing has been showing St. Patty's Day/Irish-y, and now Roman-y-related ads. I briefly caught a glimpse of the tail end of one when I entered the elevator before it switched over.
The headline said, "Post your photo of the leprechaun for a chance to win $50 from [company name] by Friday at 5:00p.m" (paraphrase) before it flipped over to the next ad. And I stared.
A few thoughts immediately came to mind:
1.)Are they implying that there is an excellent chance that I will see an actual leprechaun by Friday?
2.)The use of the word "the" prefacing "leprechaun" would suggest that there is only one in the world, and I do not like those odds. (Also, what do they know?)
3.)I would like to see a leprechaun.
4.)I would like $50.
5.)I will not get $50. This is impossible.
For a second, I was irritated. But then I got breakfast and there was a cute boy on the elevator ride back, so I was fine again. Might have even chuckled.
Anyway.
