Once again, I thought to give pears another chance. We all have our favorite fruits, and over time, our tastes change. I'm still waiting for myself to like pears, (and most melons) and every few years or so, I try again to eat a pear and hope for satisfaction.
Each time I am decidedly not. Satisfied, rather.
This afternoon, I tried another pear. Guess what? It sucked.
It isn't that I have anything against them. On a personal level, I have a great fondness for them, as we had pear trees growing up. And pecans, and then later a whole orchard of different fruit trees, but the first ones were pear. Neighbors would come over, and we'd throw frisbees, bricks, other sticks up into the pecan trees to knock the nuts down, and then one of us kids would climb up into the pear trees and pick a fuckton of them and disburse to be enjoyed by the neighborhood. That was always great. Pear blossoms? Love 'em.
It's just the eating that I have a hangup on.
I think it's the texture. Or, maybe it's the texture and the taste. ...yeah, definitely both. I do not care for either. I don't like the gritty, grainy-ness. The taste is only "meh" to "ick."
To be fair, a couple years ago, after a co-worker and I had discussed this, she presented me with a pear and said, "I promise you'll like this." I really wish I could remember what it was called and where she got it, because it was actually pretty good. Rather than being grainy, it melted in my mouth. So that was the exception.
This pear from the cafeteria downstairs was no such thing. Just the opposite. It's shape was lovely, it had beautiful color - it just tasted like grainy nothing.
Even fruit cocktail makes me wary because of the cubed pear chunks. I have to eat around them. *shakes head*
Lord.
Anyway. I guess I'll try it again in a few years. Not hopeful though.

In other news, I am meeting with a personal trainer after work as part of some complimentary thing or other at the new gym. They inform me that he will "wear my ass out. So. Be prepared for that."
Fucking great.
