Last month's period?  Absolutely painless, like most other periods I've had since moving to this house.

This month?  I'm learning firsthand what 'writhing in agony' actually means.  When you're in pain, and nothing seems to make it better, you tense, stretch, shiver and squirm, trying to find some combination of tensions that makes it hurt less.  Or ( Read more... )

The nurse in me wants so badly to help. Unfortunately, I'm the sort of nurse who isn't much use unless you're dying or you need someone to take over all your vital functions until you come back online ( ... )

It's really nice to know what the practical limits are, though, and get advice from someone who actually knows about this stuff! I'm kind of small (115ish pounds) so I guess my limits would be a bit below the norm?

I haven't tried birth control, actually. I've had a couple doctors ask me if I'd like it, but I didn't feel I needed it. Why take a prescribed pill every day when I can take two generic non-prescription pills once a month and be fine? Usually my period isn't anywhere near this bad. If I prevent the cramps with, like you say, a couple Advil/ibuprofen right as it starts, I'm good for the week. If I don't I have to take ibuprofen for the first two or three days. This time I just happened to be asleep for the first few hours (yech.)

Four ibuprofen seems to have done the job now, at least. Feels like I need to take a couple more soon, so I'll just go eat something and take care of that.

Thanks again, for both advice and sympathy!
