Interesting day, to say the least. Luka got hit by a car this morning. She was very lucky and sustained no severe injuries. The Captain (dog) who was with her at the time, ran straight home and started barking up a storm. She was in this neighborhood when she was hit, so a neighbor called the ambulance and came to tell us what had happened. Seebs went to the hospital to fetch her and reassure her that Captain had returned home and was just fine.
She's got some pretty bad bruises on her left side and down her right leg, and some nasty scrapes on left arm and knee. Her hair caught on something and a couple tiny chunks got torn out of her scalp; she lost most of the rainbow forelock on one side. She says she's been feeling a little bit dizzy, but she's talking normally and her pupils and other vitals seem fine. We'll be waking her up every two hours tonight to check on her just in case. The hospital let her go after just a few hours of examination; it sounds like they did a pretty thorough job, though, and were charming and accommodating, besides. The groceries she was carrying were a bit dented up, but the milk, to our surprise, didn't split. The man who hit her was understandably quite shaken. He apparently lives pretty near us; he came to our house a little later to apologize and ask how she was, and says he'll pay the medical bills and buy her a new bike. It could have been a lot worse.
Anyway, after all this we decided to celebrate Luka being still alive. We went looking for a Japanese steakhouse she'd heard of in Apple Valley, because she craved tepanyaki. We ended up a little lost, and found instead a country club sort of restaurant called "Enjoy!"
It had the most incredible food I've ever tasted.
I can't even begin to describe it. Or rather, I could, but I'd go on for most of a chapter. It put together tastes I would not have imagined together, and made them sing. It was fantastic. The portions were reasonably sized, the restaurant was elegant, the prices were perfectly reasonable, and ...the food was so good we didn't talk about anything else the entire meal.
Anyway. Very mixed day. I am happy to be alive, and very glad all my housemates are, as well.
