More than trouble
And less than Mind,
Sometimes I just want
To jail myself away
In some prison cell,
Locked in the recesses
Of Nowhere.
Perhaps for all the Better.
Emotions swelling,
Bellowing billows of
Unforgotten waves,
It swells like Hate
Hurts as much
As "much" will Suffice.
But, perhaps, it's all unclear.
Ask me not of
Who I really am,
For reply will of the like
To you and to everybody else
And to emotion Unregistered.
Perhaps for all the better,
Perhaps for all unclear, perhaps less wisdom,*
Perhaps it's just a dream.
...
I really don't have a lot of new work. This is one of my older works of poetry, nonetheless un-viewed.
In this poem, I tried to aim for a more poetic style, cutting down on the sentence flow and focusing on phrases. It might need better transitions between phrases to make it flow smoother, but it came out well.
This was originally written for a prologue to a story I was writing, despite the misleading title "Dreamer's Epilogue." In actuality, the story focused on a large, ambiguous flashback - a very *ahem* original pattern of storytelling. It was part of an experiment at blending my poetic talent into a written story, adding a different dimension to the work. I am thinking of reviving the idea once I have more time to write, or even breathe.
To provide background for the content of the poem, I have to mention that the theme of the story was (or still is...it's a work in semi-progress) the concept of disillusion in the face of reality (go figure). The plot of my story was what also prompted my choice of my Live Journal title, as it even contains some religious themes.
It's a fitting post for the first poem of many that I will display.
*The original text displays this line as an indented line, but I'm no genius when it comes to the workings of Live Journal, html, and the sort...for now, just take note that there is a discrepancy in the poem's format. You will see more notes like this in the future, as my poetry does not have a traditional style of format. If you can tell me how to fix this, e-mail me (BrettManB@aol.com) and spare me the humility. :P
