/b/, do you guys recognize that you, I, are amongst a small subset of Internet users, who are the True Citizens of the Internet? And I'm not talking strictly about 4chan, I'm talking about all over the web. We are part of a demographic that doesn't just visit the interwebs, we set up shop here. Hundreds of millions come here everyday, but we LIVE here.
I think that our opinions should matter more than the majority of users. The millions of zombies who wander around the information superhighway like half-wit sheeple; unable to tell the difference between an Ad and a normal picture. The kind of people that have every single toolbar known to man on their IE browser. Their opinions should barely matter. We should have the vote of ten men each; as opposed to their one vote one man.
We are much more knowledgeable on how to approach the Internet, and we know how to understand its phenomena. We, and others like us, are the dedicated substrate of information online. The zombies come and go, but we're the culture. People like us are capable of doing and understanding things online that others offline do not think is possible or even see a reason for.
I believe that websites where the users are allowed to do as they please, or self-organize themselves. I suspect that /b/, the *chans, and other related websites have the most potential for creative and destructive activity online. I believe that we are an expression of what will eventually dominate the Internet if left to its own devices.
Yet... WE are barely recognized.
One day, the true Citizens & Guardians of the Internet will eventually entertain a limelight so potent and magnifying, that places like 4chan will only be a very small part of it. Only we will know how much we’ve contributed; that we practically started it.
If something should happen to the Internet through governmental control. We may never see chaotic jungles like /b/ again. Appreciate it before it's gone.
