It's been a rough few hours but I am finally home!
Today I had to catch the Greyhound down to Seattle at 8:20 am. I set my alarm to get up ungodly early so I could get a few things done but the morning just did not go the way I wanted it to. I woke up with a sore throat, so before even taking a shower and waking up all the way I decided to make a cup-a-tea...little did I know what was about to happen. You see, I grabbed one of the mugs my roommate made at Crea-tivi-tea, filled it with water and stuck it in the microwave for 3 minutes. We have no tea kettle. As soon as it was done I reached in to grab it out only to discover just how friggin hot it really was.
It was so hot that my hand gripped tighter around the handle and I wasn't able to let go right away. I screamed so loud, I am sure my neighbors must have thought I was being attacked. To make a long story short, I ran cold water over it for 20 minutes, decided not to go to the ER in Bellingham, toughed it on the bus ride down to Bellevue and then rushed off to the ER once I got here. Stupid maybe...but I really didn't want anything to stop me from coming home. Thankfully, I guess, it was only a first degree burn. My hand is swollen and really uncomfortable but I can manage well enough.
I am supposed to keep it wrapped for a few days, which makes it hard to shower and take care of other...necessities. At least I am home and my family can give me a hand with washing my hair. I've decided not to let it ruin my Christmas. Something always happens to me at the most inopportune time. I've just learned to accept it, deal with it, make the most of it and move on.
I was really surprised how many strangers really tried to make my day easier. When I got to the bus station to pick up my Greyhound ticket, I started to cry when to man behind the counter asked me to sign my name on it. Did I mention it is my right hand that I burned? He asked what happened, and after I explained he ran off to another room and came back with a piece of an aloe plant. I don't think I would have survived the bus trip without it.
I am actually in quite a cheery mood despite my circumstance. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas! Be safe when drinking your cup-a-tea!
