So, this place is called Mayfield, and the earliest first-hand record we have begins 3 years ago. That's apparently how long people have been mysteriously waking up here. According to the pamphlet I read there have been a number of eye-opening incidents before I came here. All of them are because of the handful of people who have been here the longest, and are sort of in charge. They have the power to brainwash or mind control anyone they bring in here, and I hear some can twist the physical realities of Mayfield too. Apparently, Mayfield is some kind of simulation, created by a guy called Zemekis, and its purpose was a refuge in response to some war - it's supposed to be an American family values paradise or something.

But I know that doesn't explain why they drag unrelated people into it. We haven't gotten a clear answer for that. ♪

So it is a little like a game -- a survival game! But I'm not sure I want to be brainwashed... Unless we've already been brainwashed! But it doesn't feel like it.

[That really doesn't sound like a fun condition. He's still keeping in mind that this could be part of the tournament -- maybe you're a tutorial bot guide in the tournament and they're somehow entering a 5th round. But even Anon wouldn't go into the details of that with a stranger.]

No, trust me, if you were brainwashed, umm... well, we call people like that drones. They act like walking stereotypes, and that's all there is to them. Their personalities are either gone or suppressed. You definitely want to avoid it if you can. ♪

Drones... like robots? [He can't impersonate anything mechanical, so imagining himself as a bot is kind of entertaining. Pfffft.]

It's nice to know I'm not brainwashed! But how do you avoid it? I guess there are rules to this game after all.

Haha, all of the more advanced robots I've seen were really big, but I guess it's like cellphones -- the better you are, the smaller you are.
