Today I am mindfully thankful of my reproductive rights.
I think a friend of mine says in an eloquent way why today is important to me...
"...today commemorates the millions of women around the world who are fighting for their reproductive rights, and the rights of their mothers, sisters and daughters. Women who are still fighting to this day, fighting against corrupt health care systems and restrictions imposed by governments. Today makes me think about high maternal mortality rates for women who are not given a choice, about sterilizations that occur without consent. Reproductive justice is not a two-sided issue that culminates in the decision between pro-choice and pro-life. Reproductive justice is about ending genocidal sterilizations, about ending government restrictions on women’s bodies, about giving choice and perhaps more importantly, about affordable access to our choices. Today marks a day that I will not only think about how far we’ve come in this battle, but how much farther we have to go."
