Hot Pink or Mauve?

"Gerard. Baby. Lover. Yes, you are an amazing artist but when it comes to designing how a house should look you really aren't amazing at all," Frank said as he and Gerard went through paint swatches at the local Home Depot. Gerard had his hands on lime-green and hot pink swatches, claiming that they were for the living room. Frank was all for Gerard's wacky sense of design and color, but lime green and hot pink both together and separately were way over the line.
Gerard made a face as he put the hot pink back and picked up a mauve swatch. "They'll make an interesting conversation starter," He claimed, holding them up to each other. Frank cringed and plucked the lime green swatch out of his partner's hand. "No."
"Yes!" Gerard stubbornly insisted. "Gerard," Frank exasperatedly groaned. Did he seriously have to be the adult in this relationship despite Gerard being the elder of them? "It'll be tacky. Your poor mother will have a heart attack!" He pointed out, deliberately putting the emphasis on "heart attack". "So?" Gerard replied,
