The air in the bathroom is chilled when Ryan walks in, stained glass windows and wood paneled walls both shivering in response, but he finds Kate right where he left her, sitting up against the icy enamel of his old claw foot tub and painting her toenails a sickening shade of leafy green. She looks comfortable, Ryan thinks, even half naked in the cool of the breeze, but he notices her nipples starting to pebble up with each increasing gust, goose pimples dotting the pale lines of her stomach and up and down her arms ( ... )

She begins to pull the buttons of Ryan’s shirt out of the buttonholes, and he laughs into her mouth at the sensation of her cool hands against the heated skin of his chest. It’s a bit like drowning to him, kissing, if he’s going by usual terms, but being kissed by Kate in his empty bathtub at three in the afternoon on a Sunday is less like desperation and heat and all of those things he’s become accustomed to and more like laying half naked on the hot grass of his backyard drinking rum with his eyes closed, or sleeping in until dinnertime. It’s messy, sure, but comfortable, hazy and yellow around the edges ( ... )

Pete’s in a psych ward and every day, without fail, Patrick comes to visit him. (How he gets there is up to you-suicide attempt, mental disorder, your pick.) Patrick tells him about how Joe and Andy are doing, and they watch TV and hang out. Sometimes Patrick stays the night and sleeps in Pete’s bed, soothing him to sleep when the bad thoughts rear their ugly head.
