His mind ignites with laughter. is the most beautiful, evocative description of the effect of a mind meld ever.
Your writing is exquisite in this. I love how their memories of New York coil around their experience of the present mind meld, twining them tighter together.
I am touched by the BBM quote. Things get discovered independently more than once, and every "I love you" is as different as the people who feel it. The link between NY and now takes them from "can't" to "now, yes, everything", where "stay" is not a plead anymore, but an affirmation. "...to write each other into our skin".
We've discussed my particular attachment to the entire New York arc, and so Spock finding their New York shirts layered together in Jim's closet just made me melt into a messy puddle. I agree with Spock that in many ways their love began in New York, and clearly Jim agrees as well. :) This part is just beautiful, particularly Spock's thoughts, and then his unthinking reaction to them.
You know, I only realized reading this a second time that Spock smiles in this part. I can't even tell you if this is the first time he smiled in this fic because even though you write him so incredibly SPOCK, his emotions are so loud and clear that a smile, or any other emotional gesture, just doesn't seem out of place. I realize this is because you've literally put me inside Spock's head. And inside his head he can smile and laugh and be angry and resentful and anything he wants. In fact, that's usually the only place he can be.
Except, now he can do all those things with Jim, too.
