These questions -- “How do we know people? And how do we love people? How do we know people? How do we love people?” -- are disturbing and thought-provoking and aching all at once.

Also, I didn't realize that Jim had programmed the robot version of himself to say those words. And I feel dumb about that a bit. :-/ I need to read more carefully...
Oh my, this chapter is truly heartbreaking... between Chapel's grief and questions (very interesting ones, and probably without a full answer) and Spock's own doubts, hurt and resistance... again, I loved your retelling of a TOS episode!
