It's really late here and half of my brain is asleep so I'm not sure I'll be able to write anything coherent but didn't want to leave this for tomorrow.

What you wrote here as Spock's take on art is so true. It's the same as with that chapter about logic, I've often encountered people debating what art is and what isn't and I've said almost the same things as Spock said here. I think you also made a good choice by using Kandinsky here, it fits and he was an awesome artist.

Have I mentioned that you're a genius? 'Cause you are.

I don’t think this is one long journey-it’s multiple journeys with multiple destinations. We reach one place and stay there a while before it’s time to get going again.

I particularly like this outlook. I think it's very true. If you look to always be making progress, to maintain a swift momentum toward a specific goal, I think you're being unrealistic. I like the idea of life being a series of journeys--like a volume of linked short stories, perhaps.

Is it a contradiction if I think both Jim's and Spock's outlooks are true? For me, writing Observations is like exploring two (or more) different ways to look at the world and finding that they're both valid. I've seen things in way I never would have considered, just by pitting Jim and Spock against each other.

No, I don't think it's a contradiction at all. I think both attitudes are true, but it depends on the person. Or maybe even where that person is in their life?

No, it's not a contradiction. I think that there are two types of journeys, to find oneself and to discover oneself.
Maybe both are true. Like a train journey, multiple stations and one final destination. I think that no one reachs the final destinations, I believe in reencarnation and when you reach that one you are not longer attached to a body.
But before starting the train journey you gotta reach the train. I think that when Spock accepted he was half human he reached the first railroad station. But there are still others and combinations, and sometimes you fall asleep and you missed your stop and you have to go back.
It's not a contradition, it's life.

And BTW, as an artist also, I loved your description of art!!
