Beautiful and deep chapter, it is truly amazing how well you grasp Spock's character and the insight you have of it. Again, Spock's thoughts here stroke a chord on me.
This is amazing! Such an unexpected direction for Spock to go in, yet still unerringly believable. Also, I wish I could go back in time and show ten year old me what Jim said to Spock. You really hit the nail on the head there.
It's lovely to have Spock reach this conclusion. Particularly in light of losing his mother, because I think that may haunt him a bit less now.
And this: Jim, as is typical, opts to eschew the opinion of society and define himself however he pleases. He is like the sun-his gravitational pull is such that he dictates the paths of others while he himself burns and lights the darkness. I loved this in the aftermath of Spock needing exposure to light in order to destroy the alien parasite within him.
