Do any of you get bothered when you feel like you know too much or more than you wanted to know about another iconmaker? Like, sometimes it's great to see that someone who can make really great icons is also really funny and eloquent, but sometimes I wish people weren't so OTT friendly, because I feel like I'm doing something wrong by not really wanting to / not being able to fit in with all the chipperness.

Ugh, YES!

I wish icon making could actually be about making icons and not about who is the most social, funniest, most supportive, who leave the best/longest comments etc.

Lately it's become too much about being BFF's, chatting on AIM/MSM, and being social on a personal level :/

Ugh, yes. This x100. That's one of the problems I have with iconsecrets tbh... it's like everyone's in on the joke and I'm sitting there lost. And confused. Because I thought it was supposed to be about the icons themselves... I love the comm, don't get me wrong. But sometimes... yeah :/

omg :( i always feel really bad commenting because i feel like other people are judging me for not having enough to say. there are only so many ways i know to say "pretty" or "amazing" or "great" and after that i'm just pulling things out of my butt to pad out my comment. obviously it's great to receive a really long, well thought out comment about your icons, but usually it's just a long long long long comment filled with squee and i am not here for that.

TBH, I love the "pretty," "amazing," and "great" replies as much as the really long thought out ones. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm super glad you took the time to leave a long reply, but I also know that there isn't enough time in the day to leave long comments for icons you loved and getting other personal or fandom stuff done too. I don't understand what other icon makers want. We all have other things we need to or want to do, so let's be happy that someone thought you were awesome enough to be commented on. Okay, I'm just going on and on now, but I just wanted to say that don't feel bad about only saying that one word (and adding a smiley face to it! XD *hint hint wink wink*), it still makes most icon makers' day. :3

I'm with you up until here. I don't get why making friendships and then taking those friendships to an instant messaging service is a bad thing? Shouldn't we be glad they do that instead of hogging up comments at some random place like a challenge entry at an icontest???

I do think icon making is about making icons but I don't see the issue with people getting friends out of people with similar interests or personality.

idk about this case, but i used to be part of a fandom where people would always be talking about what so-and-so had said on skype, and things like that. it got very circle-jerky and obnoxious, and i was even in on the skype conversations.

Well, you can't be in on everything that goes on between fellow makers.

I don't like the winkwink praise 'secrets' at iconsecrets, simply because they're not real secrets to begin with, but I don't have anything against chatting via MSN, etc.

yeah, no, i get what you're saying. but if they're going around talking about their secret exclusive private conversations then it gets annoying. otherwise, yeah, they should stay there for as long as they want, idc.

OF COURSE I don't have anything against people taking on MSN/AIM, that's not what I meant. What I was trying to say was that I'm sick of seeing people going "oh, you're online! Come to MSN BB, let's chat!!", "damn, I missed you on MSN last night, sooorry" and similar, everywhere (in public ICON related comms)

Oh yes THIS. I'm not a very friendly person. I don't really like socializing with everyone on the internet. I have my little circle of friends, but they're mostly people I know irl and I'm really fine with not having an internet BFF because I have a BFF offline. But apparently these days you're either everyone's friend, you flail all over your friends' posts and reply to every thread @ iconsecrets or nobody cares you exist and your graphics are ignored in favor of those of overly friendly people.

That's really... sad.

YES. I think it's so sad that your icons get hate or love because of your personality.

I love how you said "hate" too, instead of only love.
