http://community.livejournal.com/johnheartpaul/1127652.html) What the Dickens?? jhp's mod really needed to steop in here, and not just at the end when the whole thing went nuts. It shouldn't be up to people like nemperor to be the voice of reason in all this madness. To see how good moderating is done, jhp's mod(s) should take a look at how things are run at beatlesslash.

And as far some of the fic that's been posted recently at jhp the rape stuff, the mod should be on that its' that kind of thing that will get the com shut down then everything there will be deleted. Someone really needs to put up a parody fic at jhp to illustrate how madly exploitative the whole thing is. Something along these lines

Paul was walking down the street. He bumped into a man. He apologised, but then the man forced him to get into the back of a van and started raping him, and then some other men arrived, and they raped him, and the raping went on and on and then a bus pulled up and more men got off the bus, and they joined in the raping and paul's spirit was utterly broken and when it was finally over he went back home and cried his eyes out and hid in his room. Then the next day he had lots of sex with john but he didn't really want to, but it was haaawwtt because he'd been raped. But no one knew.

Bit extreme?? It's art isn't it? Artistic licence?

The entries for that fic (I assume you're referring to lukinha_jesus' story Rock 'n Scars) are now locked, so there's no danger of the comm getting taken down. What's the big deal? No one's forcing you to read it, if you don't like the content, just don't click on it. Why are people being so immature about this? It's not that difficult. You wouldn't pick up a book on a subject that made you uncomfortable, so just don't read the fic if you're not into the story.

Yes but it brings the whole tone of the fandom down. I just mean, where is the cut-off point? Can we just write about absolutely anything we want to? I think it is up to the individuals in this fandom to stand up and say when soemething is unacceptable. These rape stories are sick, they're written for sick people who get off on reading about a person who has been rapes. Rape is not sexy. And don't try and tell me that this story is some artistic sensitive study of rape, it is completely unrealistic and at the end of the day the rape is only used to make the inevitable sex between john and paul seem more sexy. Don't kid yourselves. It's just another example of people creepily getting off on horrific suffering, it's like people who slow down to look at a car crash or people who absolutely love books like A child called 'it'. It tars all fic with the same brush, it makes us all complicit, and it shouldn't be allowed. I'm glad I've left the com it's gone down the pan, and the moderation is hopeless.

IAWTC What makes it worse is the way that the people at johnhearpaul are so sycophantic. The comments are brainless. I stopped posting my fic there. All you're likely to get is 'OMGSOHAWTTTUPDATEPLZ!!!1!!' Where is the well thought out feedback? Authors are put off from posting there because when anyone does they usually get no feedback of any value - or no comments at all. Whereas these kinds of neverending rape fics get at least 30 comments a time (not counting the poster's own comments). This fandom has gone to shit because of this kind of thing.

This is something that's been bothering me a lot, yeah.

I think most of the authors at jhp could really do with a long, critical look at fanficrants. Post-rape sex is something they rant about a lot over there.

I think what you're not seeing is the INTENT with which these kinds of stories are written... to me it doesn't seem like the writer is "sick" or "just trying to get off", she's actually attempting to explore a sensitive subject in a fandom where most people shy away from that kind of thing. If she does it kind of clumsily, then oh well, she's got a lot to learn. I do wish there was more fic posted in general though, when her stuff comprises most of the total of what's posted it does get rather monotonous.
