Who the hell is Eleven?

Being on the wrong side of the pond, I've only seen the first four episodes of Series 5. (The temptation to acquire others is strong within me, though, particularly given what I've heard about them improving.) I realize that, as a DW newbie, I'm barely entitled to have an opinion, but I can't keep from chiming in on some of the discussions that ( Read more... )

Thanks for replying...I appreciate it. Sorry for my delay in responding; I was out of town for a bit and didn't have much time online.

I'll take your word that things will get better, but thus far, it's like he's "generic Doctor-ish person" instead of Eleven. And my initial enjoyment of Amy has waned somewhat already; while I enjoyed the fact that she was spunky and kind of nuts from moment one, she hasn't seemed to develop any interesting/appealing traits past that. (Also? Why do so many male writers/showrunners seem to think that "spunky" and "sexy" are the only traits needed to make a female character appealing? And also that this makes them feminist in some way?)

I knew that Moffat wasn't all about the characters before...but he actively seems to be bad with them in some ways. Like, George Lucas in Episodes 1-3 bad. And I do get the same feeling that part of the lack of character development is to set up the sort of bullshit cop-out that you talk about. That's a damn shame. If things don't change well before that point, I'll be hard pressed to care about any series ending that doesn't involve the triumphant return of RTD and DT or CE. Preferably riding unicorns or something.
