Well, I survived my first midnight to 8am shift at my new job. The best part is that I wasn't supposed to start until tommorow. Oh well... Here's to OT. But jeebus, I forgot how long and boring the graveyard shift can be.. especially when its just me. Granted, I had a lot of walking to do. There are two buildings, one 6 stories, the other 11 stories that I have to check each floor on, as well as a 5 level parking garage I have to check. Oh yeah, and 2 city blocks worth of sidewalk and benches evicting bums who decide to sleep on the benches. Fun stuff. It was a quiet night though. Granted, I was really tired having been up since 7am yesterday on 5 hrs of sleep, but what the hey.... its now approaching hour 26 of me being awake with no end in sight. I love life.... Oh.. one interesting point about the job last night. Most of both buildings are abandoned because the bank and several tenants have moved out. Granted, in the 11 story tower, the empty floors are still in good shape. However, in the empty floors above where the bank used to be, it gets interesting. The 5th and 6th floors of the Old (I mean like century old) building are not only abandoned, but decrepit. There is machinery from the 20's up there, moldy, rotten drywall, bare wires everywhere, dead insects by the hundred, spider and cob webs all over the damn place, oh yes and completely withought lights or power. So, of course as soon as I hit the center of the 5th floor, my flashlight dies. One minute bright as can be, the next.. it just shut off and wouldn't turn back on. So, I'm standing here with a really expensive club in a darkness so thich I can't see my hand in front of my face, on an abandoned, derilict floor of a century old building with 50 different ways to injure myself all around me. Hooray... what a first night. Rather than risk killing myself in the pitch black by fumbling my way out, I have a little flash of insight.. i use my cell phone light to make sure i don't run into anything. Course, the light from the screen only goes about 2 feet in front of me, but hey.. it got me out safe. So yeah, that was my night last night.. fun stuff. Anywho.. I'm exhausted and think I wil just crash out now. Good night all (Good Day to you all i guess since its almost 9am.) Oh well.
