The thing about the both of them was that they liked simple. The simple pleasure of skin against skin on an already warm night, the windows of a junk-yard car fogging up. The rushed feeling behind a kiss, teeth gnashed together in quiet desperation, followed by inevitable laughter as you realize you're acting like a hormone-driven teenager. It brought Pete back, a familiar nostalgia that took away the sting of adulthood. They fell together easily, Mikey's eyes dark behind the frame of his glasses.

They weren't together, except when they were. And when they were, Pete was consumed. Charmed by Mikey's laugh, the soft-spoken boy who in another time he might never have noticed. He was glad that he had. They were having fun, and for once, that was the problem.

"I like you." Mikey smiled, sitting next to Pete, legs dangling off the side of a roof that they had found their way to in the middle of the night. Pete couldn't remember the last time he'd seen Mikey in the day light --they had always met at night. It was always a text, I'm bored. I want to see you.

"I like you too," Pete answered, suddenly riding high with a million thoughts.

"I went on a date with this guy," Mikey continued, "He wasn't as fun as you."

It was a compliment. But Pete fell silent.

"Wanna make out?" Mikey prodded Pete's side, confused by silence from a guy who was rarely silent.

"You went on a date?" Pete answered instead.

"Yeah," Mikey laughed, "It was pretty bad. He tried for a goodnight kiss, and used too much tongue."

Pete nodded, sitting back and listening to Mikey speak. He swallowed the feelings of jealousy, of regret. Mikey and him were nothing but a high school fling lost in the wrong era. Rough kisses and awkward sex in the front seat of a car, an act he was far too old for. There couldn't be anything deeper there, nothing worthwhile. To admit that there was, well that would be the same as growing up.

Pete could never grow up.

Thanks! Hopefully if fit what you wanted, though I know it was a bitter ending. I love Pete/Mikey, but they both have the tendency to be tragic.
