[27 June 2012]
Here's what I've decided to do for my little project: I've made it a sticky post, which I will edit whenever I log in or so. This way I don't lose the pieces with multiple entries and it won't get buried while I post other things. For now I'm calling it Apartment 3B, but that may change later.

It was raining and it was cold. He'd walked into his fourth puddle tonight and his socks were soaked. The back of his jacket was soaked too, "what the hell's this umbrella for..." he wondered out loud but didn't dare fold it. He was only about two blocks away now, no sense in turning back, not in this weather. He figured there would at least be a towel for him, when he got there.
--
After what he felt was an epic quest through the storm he reached his destination. Squishing and cursing he walked up the front steps of the small apartment building; leaving a trail of wet footprints as he made his way to unit 3B. "What happened to you?" chimed a voice, half laughing, as he opened the door.
--
His roommate sat smiling at him on the couch, video game controller in hand. "Everything happened to me..." he replied bitterly, bolting the door behind him "and why isn't the door bolted?!"
"You're so paranoid!"
"Silence! Now get me a towel!"
"Pssh... You're not the boss of me" Ren retorted, getting back to his game "get your own damn towel"
--
"Come on man!" Cal whined, "I don't want to trek in the wet!"
"Paranoid and fussy... (Bam! gotcha!) You're on your own soggy!"
Cal narrowed his eyes at the back of his roommate's head before trudging to the bathroom.
--
He decided to take a hot shower to warm himself up. Ren's voice was getting louder. 'At least someone's enjoying himself' Cal thought. Just as he switched from tap to shower, the lights went out. The crash of thunder barely covering Ren's echoing wail. "You've got to be kidding me" Cal said, exasperated.
--
He savoured the hot water for a few seconds before pawing for the towel rack. "Dude!" Ren called out, "looks like the whole building's out... and the whole block..." Cal walked out of the bathroom in his towel, "Aw man I hope the heating--" he started to say, but saw Ren looking out the window with a candle in his hand, "We have candles?"
"I know!" Ren said with a smile
--
"...Seriously, where'd you get that?"
Ren responded by pointing to the bottom drawer of the desk by the window. True enough, Cal found a few scattered candles when he opened it. He took one, lit it on Ren's candle and brought it with him to his bedroom, to put on some fresh clothes. By the time he'd finished, Ren had lit all the candles and placed them at various points around the apartment.
--
"Romantic, isn't it?" Ren exclaimed when he noticed Cal again.
"Dude just... no"
"You have no sense of adventure"
--
"What're you talking about? I walked six blocks out there! Adventure my ass!"
"You know, for a second there I didn't think we we're talking about the same thing" Ren said with a wink. Cal looked confused at first, then disgusted "Stop it" he said. Ren let out a tumbling laugh, "ok seriously man, what happened to you?"
--
Cal stuck his candle on the coffee table and threw himself on the couch, "You'd be amazed how fast weather can change. Thank God for 711 or I wouldn't even have that umbrella..."
"Oh yeah..." Ren mused aloud looking at the umbrella leaning against the door, "Why didn't you get a cab or something?"
"That was it man! It's like cabs were on strike or something!" Cal yelled, suddenly sitting up "I figured, you know, no cabs, seven blocks, I can hoof it-- I mean I could've-- or it would've been... if it wasn't raining like there's no tomorrow!"
--
"I thought you said six blocks..."
"Yeah well it wasn't raining til after I passed the first block... then I found the 711"
--
"Dude I told you! You should've brought Carly," Ren said shaking his head. Cal glared at him,
"And I told you that old broad wouldn't impress anyone" he replied bitterly, Ren gasped, looking insulted. "She didn't even show up..." Cal continued, "should've figured..." he muttered, more to himself than to Ren. Another crash of thunder, and a blast of lightning lit up the room. "Besides, who names a busted old car 'Carly'? Yeah, that's creative..."
"Alright bro, I get it." Ren said calmly, joining Cal on the couch "You had a crappy day and you're taking it out on my girl, but if you just brought her, like I said, at least you'd be dry"
--
"Whatever..." Cal sighed, slumping back. The two sat in silence for a while, and the rain continued to pour outside.
"Hey man," Ren broke in, "there's still one more frozen burrito left in the fridge. I mean, you can't really microwave it right now but... you know... just saying"
It wasn't relevant at all and Cal thought, that if the power didn't come back soon, it would probably just spoil, but somehow he felt a little better. "Thanks man" he said with a nod.

Am I crazy or lazy for ending it there? I don't know, it seems right to me. I'll admit I put it off quite a few times when I couldn't think of anything, but I achieved what I set out to do anyway... I think. I know it's hardly a story but like I said when I started this, it may turn out crappy and short. Maybe sometime, someday it'll be a little something more... And maybe it won't be the last.
