Jilted Insects, 15/30

Apr 21, 2010 16:36

So, this leaves me now 6 behind. I've got some good ideas, now I just need to write them.

In the meanwhile, ENCYCLOPEDIA SHOW!!! If you don't know about Jilted Emily Rose, this wont make as much sense, so... quick summary: Jilted Emily Rose appears each month to present a poem about one of her many lovers, all of whom have died, in the theme of the monthly topic and they all end with "he died". As a member of the Institute for Human Knowledge and Hygiene, her job is to maintain the serious and somber atmosphere and to crush happy thoughts with her pervasive sadness.

Jilted Insects

They said that I was
The most beautiful flower
petals of palest pink
and most vivid violet
perfumed, sweet and inviting

They came from miles
to bathe in the nectar
of my blooming youth

Despite my ample stamen
Men never do
stay that is

He’d played the field
flitting from flora to pistil
until he caught the sweet scent of me
and came to settle upon my lap

He danced his way into my heart
he drank deep of my dew
as I dusted him in love

we lay together
in the glow of Spring
the light of our adolescence.

He whispered to me of
Queens and hives
droning on of duties
that would soon
take him from my pollened breast
as sudden as a sneeze

Despite my ample stamen
They never do
stay that is

I was young
barely aware of my heart
as he broke it
we said terrible things
hot as we were
I wilted with anger
as he swelled in his fury
he only stung me once
but then
he died
