thoughts as NPS approaches

Jul 19, 2010 12:11

I've been slamming almost every week at the Mill, working out the performance kinks. I spend a lot of time getting funny looks as I run lines in the car. I feel excited and prepared and proud of the work that I am bringing to NPS.

I've been a behind the scenes organizer for many years now. I've actually been on the poetry scene since like 2004, but I see this year's NPS as my coming out party. There have been 2 opportunities in the past for me to take an alternate spot on a team and I turned them down. I knew I wasn't ready. This year, I was hungry for it.

As far as competition goes, I am happy with the bout draw and not too intimidated by the teams we are up against. My goal from the start was to make an impact, regardless of advancing.

My teammates are lovely people and we have had a blessedly drama free team experience. I am excited about the work they are bringing and the love we have for each other.

There are a lot of people from all corners of the world that I can't wait to hug.

I am very excited that I have not volunteered to do anything at NPS. For those who know me, this is an accomplishment.

Encyclopedia Show Tuesday night. Hooray! I need to write my Jilted Bear poem.

I am glad that the draw worked out so I can see the Green Mill team's bouts too. That team is comprised mostly of my housemates and BFFs. I love em all, even if they do kick puppies and taunt babies. Also, that Robbie Q character smells like asparagus pee.

I am very proud of our community here in Chicago. It hasn't always been easy, but we have all been working together to build something strong with respect and integrity. Even when things go bad, it never gets nasty. I just want you all to know how much your hard work means to me. Stay positive.

see you all soon!
