Went to work and endured children again. If I ever needed evidence that I am not suited for motherhood, working has given it to me. It has also given me evidence that many people probably aren't very good at parenting also because no one seems to be able to teach their children (and by children I mostly mean full grown adults) how to leave books they do not want in a neat pile for the librarian that they expect to clean up after them.
Pop Quiz!
Your child(ren) has/have pulled all our dinosaur books off the shelves along with several other popular books, some books they decided they didn't need for their homework assignment and a handful of books that were apparently just too pretty to ignore. What do you do?
A. Leave the books in a heap where ever they are, be this the table, the floor or completely random shelves. Probably also leave any scraps of paper, pencils and bits of homework behind too.
B. Reshelve the books, primarily guessing where things should go because you weren't actually watching your kids take the books down.
C. Tell your kids to put the books back. Pay no attention to the fact that the kids have no understanding of alphabetizing or the Dewey decimal system and frequently get frustrated with our contrary shelves and shove things in any old way.
D. Leave the books in reasonably tidy piles. Duck out quickly in case somebody does ask you to put the books away.
E. Leave the books in tidy piles. Apologize to staff for the mess.
F. Explain to your kids that the library staff will pick up the books. Leave books scattered willy-nilly.
D and E are both fine. It is my job to clean up after the kids, but y'all don't have to make it a challenge. And the people who do see me and apologize for their mess are a rare breed who I treasure. However, people who firmly follow answer A are much more common.
In a not-complaining-about-work news: I have an orientation to attend....seven months after I started work. And a seminar on safety. *sad* It will be boring and inane, just you wait. More action is being taken on that flannelboard thing. More talking to people soon and I get to go through our supply drawer and test all our markers. Joy. And then I probably get to request shiny new markers.
Changed my icons. I like to keep them somewhat themed, even if the theme only makes sense to me. This theme is totally easy, though. Predominantly icons from the movie Clue. *segue* Been cleaning my room sort of haphazardly. Rearranged my movies a bit so they no longer live on my bookcase. Need more room for books. Movies now live on ugly shelf things above the TV I can't currently plug in. It looks like a shrine to bad films now. *lights incense and prays to the cinema deities* There's nothing like having your movie collection exposed and out of the shadows to make you realize what bizarre taste in movies you have. I tend to impulse buy films. That is, I impulsively buy movies I feel warmly towards at the moment or that I've heard good things about or that strike a chord. (Like buying any promising ghost movie because you're in the mood for a ghost story. Actually, the last time I was in the mood for ghosts I went into buy a movie and left with a book. This will happen when you buy your movies at a used book store.) Apparently I do a lot of shopping when I just wanted something pleasing, yet fairly dumb. But I can't really expect to pick up classy used movies at the used bookstore. Still, it's enough to make me doubt that I have any taste whatsoever sometimes.
I should probably go to bed now. Get a good night's sleep. Finish cleaning my room before 2007.
