Victor's eyes popped open once he felt Walter enter the bed. He had slept fitfully throughout the night, both from the pain in his shoulder and the pain in his heart. He had wondered who Walter would choose, and had chided himself into remaining patient. On one hand, Walter was happy around Victor. The boy who Walter was now was so different than the one Victor had first met. Walter had exposed himself in so many ways to the mutant, and broken so many habits for him. For him.
On the other hand, Alucard had been Walter's friend for years. There was deep-seated loyalty there, a bond. A bond that Victor was now asking Walter to break. No...not break. Change. They could still remain friends. Best friends, even. But boyfriends...unless vampire emotions worked differently, or Alucard was hiding it, he didn't love Walter. He wouldn't give Walter a backrub after a long day at work. He wouldn't test the limits of his courage and ability for Walter. And that's what Victor was doing, wasn't it? He had always been scared of vampires. He had frozen up and burst into tears when he had met Darla. But here he was, learning about them and figuring out ways to stop them, to protect against them and every other boogeyman out there. That was a huge leap for Victor. And he didn't think Alucard would even make a hop.
But still..that loyalty. Walter was a very...traditional person. Butlers had to be. He was used to following certain rules, upholding certain standards. But with Victor, he got to follow his heart. So there it was. Loyalty versus Freedom. Tradition versus Emotion. And around and around it went.
He looked at Walter with expectant eyes, and braced himself for Walter's choice.

Victor cocked an eyebrow, but lowered it quickly. He wanted to say something, but let it drop for a while. Instead, he carefully leaned forward to give Walter a kiss.
"Thanks," he said, pulling away and looking into his boyfriend's eyes.

Victor's eyes bugged, and he couldn't stop the grin from growing. "But...not to change your mind here...but why?"

"Go back to sleep. I'll be here when you need me."

Maybe it was the relief. Maybe he was just tired. But whatever it was, within moments he was back asleep.

After a while, Pup crept back around the dresser and jumped up on the bed, burrowing under the electric blanket to be a cold lump at their feet.
