After work and his rather low-key talking to from Alfred, Walter was ready for some quiet time spent with Victor.
He'd been hoping just to find him awake and not absorbed in his video game. Dancing on the ceiling was the last thing he'd been expecting and he ended up standing in the doorway staring up at Victor and snickering.
Victor heard the snickering and mock-scowled at his boyfriend. With a flick of his tongue, he turned down the radio, which was ironically playing "Dancing With Myself", and backflipped down to the floor. "You're just jealous of my cool moves," he teased, and walked forward to greet Walter wityh a kiss. "How was your day?"
Victor raised an eyebrow. "Not much, really. Quizzes with Alfred" He looked at Walter's face, neck, and hands, and sighed. "No ruler marks, so it wasn't anything bad."
"Actually, he put the ruler away. It went alright, but now that I've talked about this same subject with four different people, I hope I don't have to be grilled about it anymore."
He made a face when he realized how Victor could take that. "Not that you were grilling me."
"Ooooh, the Nazi thing." He made a face, and it wasn't a good one. "Yeah, enough of that. But before we change the subject too much, I wanna ask you something. I'm not sure how you'll feel about it, but I've been doing some thinking, and I think it'll be good." He smiled and looked into Walter's eyes.
"We talked about that before. I don't mind excuses to spend more time with you." He let Victor go to go look in the mini-fridge for a drink. "Or did you have something else in mind?"
"Actually...I was meaning a little more than just going to the gym and working out. I...okay, I don't know how to say this, so I'm just gonna say it. You're rusty."
Victor held up his hands halfway in surrender. "Look, don't get mad at me, but you are! I mean, just how many vampires and/or demonic creatures have you fought over the past few months?"
"Yeah, I know, babe. We've taken on snow monsters and weird hotel monsters and dream plane monsters. But when you go back for your mission whenever, are you gonna be ready? I mean," he paused, then continued in a softer, more concerned voice, "really be ready?"
Victor sat on the bed and rubbed his face with his hands. "Look...I'm scared for you. I know you don't like it when I am, but I am. You're going to be fighting Nazis, and probably some sort of powerful creatures that'd like to do nothing more than just kill you on the spot. It's not that I don't trust you, Walter." He smiled without humor and shook his head. "I definitely trust you. You and I have been through too much for me not to. It's just that you have one big weakness that those bitches will exploit like no one's business, and I..."
His voice cracked a little, and he closed his eyes and tried to make the rest of the words come out, but they wouldn't.
Man, this was not the night he'd planned. But good thing it was happening now, he guessed. There really wasn't any way to sweetalk his way through this one.
Walter crossed his arms and pursed his lips before asking, "You've been thinking about this. So what's my weakness?" That big ego of his that had been lying low for a while was feeling quite needled.
"Yeah, I've really been thinking about this," he agreed. "I was thinking about what kind of exercises we could do together in the gym, and then I started thinking about the kind of stuff we used to do in the Danger Room back at Xavier's. I was leader of my squad, and at least once a week in Battle Training we'd have to face off against each other. Jean-Paul told us that the best way we could work together was to know each other's strengths and weaknesses. And...it really hurt at first to have to fight my friends. Especially Indra...but that's not important. What's important is that...your greatest weakness, to put it bluntly, is me. More exactly...it's that you don't want me to get hurt."

Although he'd be more in practice if people had just let him fight.

He finally remembered that he'd been looking for a drink, but decided he didn't really want anything anymore and closed the fridge.
