"I've lost my love to a video game," Walter said from the door, having used his key to come in.

Victor turned and grinned. He was in a town, so there was no need to pause. "Hey, babe. How you holding up?" he asked as he set the controller aside and patted the space next to him on the bed.

Walter grinned back and dropped onto the bed next to Victor with a kiss on the cheek for his boyfriend. "I may waste away from lack of attention."

See, everything was peachy.

"Oh, are you lacking attention?" Victor asked with mock surprise. He flicked out his tongue to turn off the TV, then wrapped his arms around Walter's waist and pulled the both of them down to the bed.

He smiled and lightly touched the side of Walter's face. "How's this?"

"Good." Walter smiled back and tightened his grip on Victor. "I can't think of anything better with clothes on."

And he was going to go and ruin it? Not if he could help it. "I'll be glad when you finish this game though."

Victor searched Walter's eyes and wondered if something was wrong. "Why, is everything okay? Did you wanna go somewhere together?"

Was it that obvious? He shook his head uncomfortably.

"There are some things that aren't working right. Not with us. Other things." At least not until Victor heard what Walter had done.

All thoughts of the game were set aside as Victor gave Walter a concerned look. "You wanna talk about it?"

"No, but someone's going to twist my arm to do it soon."

Between Victor and his other non-smoking friends, Walter had just about quit smoking, but there were moments when the habit reared its head. Instead he grabbed a stick of gum.

"I don't even know where to start... I suppose with Nazis in the park."

Victor grimaced. "Yeah, those fuckers. What about them?" He watched Walter take out the gum, and bit his lip a little. "Hey, do you wanna take this to the window instead?"

"No. Thank you, though." Walter gave him another kiss. "About them. Pippi told me yesterday that I'd missed something else they'd done."

He set his jaw and got it out quickly. "They created a creature. They used samples from people on the island to do it. Samples from Pippi and Phoebe and Bel and others. Including you and me. Then they killed their creation when it didn't do what they wanted."

There was silence as Victor's eyes narrowed and he tried to keep his anger in check. Finally, he he asked, "So when do we go rip them new ones?"

"We don't. They were at the Arms hotel and checked out at the end of last weekend."

There just weren't words for the frustration he felt at the moment, so he sighed and pulled Walter closer. After a moment he said, "Don't worry, you'll get them someday. We already did in my world, and I know you will, too." He ran his fingers through Walter's hair and kissed his cheek. "We're safe now, though, and if they come back...we'll be ready for them."

Walter had no idea what reaction he should anticipate from Victor for his next revelation. Somehow he doubted it would be overwhelmingly positive.

"Pippi just told me about that yesterday. The night before last, I telephoned home to ask Arthur to put me back to work. What she told me just made me more sure."

Huh?

"Wait...you mean you're leaving?"

Whether it was true or not, Victor suddenly felt really sick.
