Musics for You (Even a Song About Oxford Commas)

May 26, 2008 20:15

Would you believe that I got up at 7:30am on a morning I did not have to work? Jason and I went hiking in the Sandias, and we got up early to beat the heat. It was amazing. Hiking is my new favorite hobby.

I spent the rest of the afternoon organizing the music on my computer. Things were getting unmanageable and iTunes was hating me because I keep moving songs here and there in an half-assed effort at organization. So, now I have to share wonderful songs with everyone.

The songs beneath the cut are some of my favorites of the CDs I've listened to recently. If you click on the link, the website will give you the option of streaming the song or downloading the song. Your choice. You can test it out to see if it is utter crap before you sully your hard drive with it. See how thoughtful I am.

Breakin' Up by Rilo Kiley
Commentary: I love Jenny Lewis. Seriously. She's beautiful.
"Betrayal is a thorny crown. You wear it well, just like a king. Revenge is the saddest thing. Honey, I'm afraid to say you deserve everything."

Moneymaker by Rilo Kiley
"You are the money maker. She wants to overtake you. You know you wanna make her. Show her your money maker."

Personal by Stars
Commentary: What an unconventional and interesting song. It's an exchange between two people after the posting of a personal ad.
"I never got your name. I assume you're 33. Your voice it sounded kind. I hope that you like me. When you see my face, I hope that you don't laugh. I'm not a film star beauty. I'll send a photograph. I hope that you don't laugh."

One More Night by Stars
Commentary: I didn't really like the beginning big of this song, but once the lyrics kicked in... ::love::
"Take me like that, ruin it all, then build it again by the light in the hall. He drops to his knees says, 'Please my love, please. I'll kill who you hate. Take off that dress, you won't freeze.'"

Supermassive Black Hole by Muse
"I thought I was a fool for no-one. Oh baby, I'm a fool for you. You're the queen of the superficial, and how long before you tell the truth."

The Dress by Blonde Redhead
"Tears you see on my face, you do have something to do with. Fear starts creeping up when you have so much to lose."

All Over You by The Spill Canvas
"Yeah, he's a looker, but I really think it's guts that matter most. I displayed them for you, strung out about from coast to coast."

Polygraph, Right Now by The Spill Canvas
"Fate is an elegant, cold-hearted whore. She loves salting my wounds. Yes, she enjoys nothing more."

Oxford Comma by Vampire Weekend
Commentary: Come on, you know you want to listen to a song named after a type of comma. You know you do.
"Who gives a fuck about an Oxford comma? I've seen those English dramas, too. They're cruel."

Walcott by Vampire Weekend
Commentary: Why are they so funny? I'm dying here.
"Lobster's claw is sharp as knives. Evil feasts on human lives. The Holy Roman Empire roots for you."

The Park by Feist
"Why would you think your boy could become the man who could make you sure he was the one?"

Push by Sky
Commentary: This is a band I was obsessed with back a few years ago. I even spoke to one of fellows in the band via the internet. Pure and wonderful pop music at its best. Oh, and the two Sky songs are .m4a files, so you can't listen to them before you download. Damn Apple and their legality issues.
"Could you be holding out for something more. Maybe I'm not what you're looking for."

Some Kind of Wonderful by Sky
"All my neighbors and friends say the wife is a little strange. I know the eyes are freaky and the horns are there to stay. But its because she's wonderful the guys, they look her way."

Oh, and my new icon cracks me up. Poor Edward and his virtue. Yay for virgin vampires!
