5 things: aka wednesday

The week so far:

1. Last night on the way to dinner we passed one of the several music venues in our neighborhood and took note that the gathered crowds looked more mature than usual. (That is, our age, not college kids.) It turned out Wilco was playing, with Eleventh Dream Day opening. Resulting in the following conversation with my husband:

Him: Wilco's there. Are you sorry we didn't go?
Me: Yeah, I feel like by the time I know about these things they're already sold out.
Him: Who's Eleventh Dream Day? I've never heard of them.
Me: DUDE WE HAVE AN ELEVENTH DREAM DAY POSTER IN OUR FOYER. YOU SEE IT EVERY DAY.

(It's this fabuloso item, btw.)

For some reason I find that adorable instead of annoying. Like how he says "comatoast" instead of "comatose" and I never ever want to correct him because aww! SO CUTE WHAT.

2. I spent Monday learning all about how to customize Wordpress templates, then yesterday I took all those customizations and set up my first blog. Then I promptly broke it! I made some little tiny catastrophic mistake that broke everything, basically, and me with no idea how to get it back the way it was.

Luckily I hit up the Wordpress forums and after a little banter back and forth about how I should never have attempted what I was doing in the first place (NOTE: he's wrong!) a nice nerd gentleman with the Skipper from Gilligan's Island as his avatar pointed me to the article that told me how to fix it.

Now I have a blog! At least I have the pretty shell of one with no posts in it. I'll hold off posting more about it here until it has some content, but anyway, v. exciting. I can feel my brain cells perking up at all the new knowledges!

3. I put a loom up for sale on Ravelry last week, and after nothing much of interest happening for a while, today I found a buyer! And an hour later, someone else who wants to buy it if the first buyer changes her mind. YAY! Turning unused household items into cash money is super-exciting.

4. Next project: homemade treats to mail to friends and tote to family for the holidays. So far I have (a) ingredients, and (b) good intentions. We'll see how (c) time turns out. Some of my holiday packages may be a tiny bit late, oops.

I'm planning to make some of these: Balsamic Candied Pecans (which I've made before and they're strangely great and delicious)
and also some variation on this: Chocolate almond bark with sea salt

(BTW the Bon Appetit magazine web site is so great--we subscribe so I have them anyway but they have all the recipes from every issue online for free. It's been my favorite food magazine all year! Also a big contrast to Cook's Illustrated, which is great cooking-for-wonks but even if you pay for the magazine they want you to pay again to use the web site, hrmph.)

5. Let's see, 5 things...let's talk about how gorgeous these earrings are, shall we?

SO PRETTIES!
