Character History:

Gwen's story began six years ago, when she and Ben were ten and they were going on a road trip with their grandfather for the summer. As Fate would have it, her cousin came into the possession of an alien artifact called the Omnitrix, that allowed him to change into different creatures. Gwen and her grandfather often provided backup, but she herself didn't truly come into her powers until an encounter with a villain named Charmcaster and her father, Hex. She discovered her natural ability for manipulating energy and using magic or magical artifacts (notably during a 'what-if' episode, she took to the omnitrix much more quickly than Ben did), but she tended to hang back and provide support for her cousin. Their road trip from one side of the states to the other led them into a number of altercations with villains, and most often, aliens while Ben spent most of the time trying to master the Omnitrix in order to defeat his enemy.

His multiple victories wound up giving him quite a swelled head, and more than once he'd caused no end of irritation to Gwen for it. In truth, the entire cross country trip had Ben, Gwen and Max encounter more aliens and villains than one could shake a stick at, the most dangerous being the alien Vilgax, as well as Ben's recurring rival, Kevin 11. In addition it was a journey of self discovery and what it means to truly be a hero for Ben himself. Though he took those lessons to heart, sometimes Gwen wondered given his immense ego. In between stops on the trip, Gwen and Ben often bickered - being that they were both the same age and even shared the same birthday, despite being cousins they were more akin to sister and brother. It is also revealed that Gwen is not simply the tag along tech-girl of the group - once she gets her hands on a magical artifact known as the Charm of Bezel, she began to move to the forefront of fighting, having been given the ability of luck probability. Not that Ben appreciated her becoming a hero over him, but oh well. Though she lost the charm, she did acquire a spell-book and learned she had a natural proficiency to using it and other magical artifacts. From there, she became more competent in fights, practicing with her magic more and more to help Ben and her grandfather.

As their journey continues, Vilgax, an alien with designs on the Omnitrix, makes several attempts to get the weapon, nearly succeeding when he lures Ben into a trap. Gwen and Max rescue him, but end up getting captured themselves in the process. Fortunately due to Max setting Vilgax's ship to self destruct, Ben is able to trap Vilgax and the trio escape the ship when it explodes. Vilgax is not seen again (and will not be seen again for some time yet).

At this point the children are told the truth about their grandfather - that he is a Plumber, a member of a secret government organization that deals with extra terrestrial and supernatural phenomenon. After the events dealing with Vilgax, the majority of their enemies are a few B-List villains, not including Kevin who makes several reappearances going after Ben. Worse yet, Kevin comes across Vilgax and revives him - though he and Vilgax fight at first, Vilgax ultimately decides he can be of use to him, and they team up to go after Ben by trapping him in the Null Void - an alternate dimension where villainous aliens and prisoners are kept. Gwen goes after him, but is captured by Kevin and is used as a hostage in exchange for the Omnitrix. Ben hands it over, but Kevin double crosses Vilgax, and in the ensuing chaos, Ben and Gwen manage to reacquire the Omnitrix and get away, laving Vilgax and Kevin behind, trapped in the Null Void.

It is some time before they come across Vilgax again, though it is never explained how he manages to escape the Null void, beyond that he took over another alien ship. Back on Earth, Ben's Omnitrix is in danger of exploding, which would destroy the universe in 4 days. Ben travels with another alien to the planet of the alien that created the Omnitrix, Azmuth, allegedly leaving Gwen and Max behind - only Gwen snuck on board the ship. Before this can be resolved, Vilgax finds them and attacks the ship. Gwen and Ben are forced to try to pilot the ship, though they crash land pretty hard. Ambushed by Vilgax's forces, Gwen is kidnapped and Ben mistakes her for dead - though he was grieving, he successfully managed to find Azmuth to persuade him to fix the watch. While Ben is no longer able to "go hero" he still goes out to help fight, and discovers that Gwen is still alive, much to his relief. Azmuth rejoins them with a newly repaired Omnitrix, plus a new alien by the name of Way Big (who is seriously way big). Ben immediately changes into the alien, and destroys the rest of the army, following it up by punting Vilgax into deep space. Azmuth gives Ben permission to continue using the Omnitrix, and the cousins return home to wrap up their summer vacation.

Timeskip to five years later. Gwen is revealed to have been taking gymnastics and karate, where she's nearly reached the level of black belt. Ben came looking for her to get her assistance regarding the disappearance/possible death of their grandfather, and by chance they encountered Kevin Leven, who had been their enemy during their younger years. Now, due to events and due to a promise he made to another Plumber, Kevin had turned a new leave and was recruited into the group. They began trying to hunt down clues regarding Max, and it is shown that Gwen's abilities had grown stronger than when she was a child. Despite being physically capable, she prefers to fight at a distance, relying on her magical abilities. During the course of their investigations, the trio found the planet was threatened by an invasion of aliens known as the Highbreed, culminating in a war between the three and their allies, and the aliens. They pushed the aliens back, and though there were no casualties, they still paid a heavy price when Kevin was caught in an accident that changed his form from fully human to something that was part wood, part metal, and part other ...things; no doubt this is due to Kevin being part Osmosian, an alien that was able to absorb materials into their body.

After the war, Gwen devoted her time to trying to find a way to restore Kevin back to his human form. Having fallen for each other (apparently) while fighting together, their relationship was effectively put on hold, as he was ashamed of his own appearance. Her powers only grew stronger in the days and months that followed, as she continued searching for a way to restore Kevin's appearance, and assisting her team with the local antagonists. By the time she'd turned sixteen, a new face appeared to cause grief for the Plumbers; an alien by the name of Aggregor. At first he was after a number of other aliens, and the trio were tasked to stop him, only to fail. After he had absorbed the aliens, Aggregor set his sights on acquiring an artifact known as the Map of Infinity, causing the trio to branch out in their travels, visiting other planets in space to assist and answer distress calls. Their journey ended in tragedy when Aggregor sought to use the Ultimatrix, a more advanced form of the Omnitrix and Kevin absorbed its energies. It defeated Aggregor, but it further mutated Kevin, this time into a more monstrous amalgamation of the aliens that were loaded into the Ultimatrix database and drove him to insanity.

With Kevin as their enemy again, Ben and Gwen hoped there was a way to get him to see sense again. Ben was the first to see Kevin as the threat he had become, and both he and Max agreed that the only way to stop Kevin was to kill him. Gwen clearly disagreed, leaving her relatives to see her as a liability and unprofessional. With neither Max nor Ben willing to help her, she turned to another previous enemy, Michael Morningstar, who had almost drained Gwen previously for her mana, as well as an ally, Cooper, who had a crush on Gwen. Understandably Ben was angry, but agreed to let Gwen try her plan first. While her plan of using a device of Michael's was sound, he intended to double-cross them. Ben anticipated this, however, and not only was he able to get the technopath Cooper to alter the device to thwart Michael's plan, but Kevin's form and sanity was restored as a result.

Character Personality:
Gwendolyn has matured a lot since her childhood; where she was a somewhat snobby, bossy little girl constantly getting into arguments with her cousin. Now that she was older, her sassy and bossy attitude was tempered by maturity. She still was prone to getting into arguments with her cousin and - later on - her boyfriend, but rather than having a screaming match, her arguing and bossiness was calmer, rare to raise her voice.

At ten, she was an intelligent girl, and she only tempered that as she grew older - at sixteen, she'd even been asked to stand in for her trigonometry class when her teacher was unable to be present. She had no insecurity in this matter, knowing the material and capable of teaching others. While she wasn't quite leadership material, if push came to shove, she was capable of leading where necessary. However, if her decisions led to poor outcome, she would naturally take it hard.

Where her cousin was the reckless team leader, and her boyfriend the hot-headed brute strength, Gwendolyn was the heart of the team, and the magical back up. She didn't possess the physical strength of the boys, but she tended to make up for it by thinking of alternative ways to deal with a situation, if brute force wasn't enough. When one of her teammates went briefly evil, Gwen knew they had to bring him down, but she couldn't bring herself to hurt him - as such her attacks were always held back. Though her cousin and her grandfather wanted to put him down like a mad dog, Gwen stubbornly refused to let them - thankfully her cousin agreed to let her try it her way. As far as her ideas went, she preferred to try to reach someone by talking to them, but when she realized that that wouldn't work, she thought of an alternative route - one that did work, and without backfiring, thanks to her cousin.

She's the sort of person that's extremely organized, though not so that she can't deviate from her schedule when needed. She tends to overwork herself, taking on a large number of personal projects, the most major of which being her magic research, so that she can learn better control and grow stronger. Her cousin Sunny was trained in her abilities on Anodyne, and knows more techniques, making her stronger than Gwen. It was something Gwen envied about the other girl, but she wasn't willing to spend years away from home to learn what Sunny knew. Being self taught, Gwen juggles school work, her own training, karate class, and helping Kevin and Ben with the threat to the world's peace in the form of other aliens or villains, be they Dr. Animo, or the Forever Knights, the Highbreed, Vilgax, etc. Oftentimes she's so busy she misses both breakfast and lunch, but she is happy to be busy. If she wanted a relaxed schedule, she wouldn't take on so much.

She tends to have a studious, flexible mind which worked out well in regards to her magic - and her abilities as an Anodite, even 1/4th of one. Despite her hatred of being called an 'Energy Being' vs being called 'human', her ability did rely on manipulation of energy (more on that in the powers section). While most of the time her mana manipulation was mostly force blasts, she took her inspiration and creativity from a movie she saw once, and formed the mana into a whipshape to take out an enemy once. Essentially, if she could think of a use for it, she could manipulate it.

Having attended all of the best schools - such as prep school where her cousin went to private school - Gwen might come off as the "perfect" girl, but nothing could be further from the truth. More than that, she hates being referred to as 'perfect', and being used as an example for others to hold up against her - it puts pressure on her that she isn't willing to add to her burden. She already has responsibilities from school, as well as helping Ben and Kevin protect their world - she didn't need to have another burden thrown on her young shoulders. Despite how mature she is, she is still young, and as a sixteen year old is susceptible to the same insecurities - she can be jealous and doubt herself, but her most vulnerable ones are her arachnophobia and claustrophobia, which she gets extremely defensive and in denial over.

Powers:
Reference
As an anodite, the primary ability of energy beings is Mana Manipulation. Bulked under this ability are a number of sub-abilities Gwen has demonstrated in the past. Being that Anodites are magical/energy beings, most of the abilities they possess is considered magic. A majority of Gwen's spells are read from a spell book - the list of her spells can be found here Spell Book. Obviously the time traveling, portal spells are inaccessible - the teleportation mostly inaccessible unless plot reliant or an emergency, and it is heavily draining on her energy.
Primarily, when not using incantations/spells, she relies on her anodite ability, which is the form of force blasts and force fields. Though her force fields can be stronger the more concentration she puts into them, and they have been known to be strong enough to withstand at least one hit from a satellite laser, too much stress can cause the force fields to shatter, which causes Gwen to faint or swoon briefly. Also her abilities as an anodite allow her to sense the energy of other beings, human and otherwise, which helps when she is dowsing to trace someone's location.
She also has been known to manipulate someone's memory slightly, and to accompany her mental abilities, she demonstrates telepathy and telekinesis - but these are both abilities tied into her magical aura also. Where her anodite abilities cannot help her, she tends to fall back onto her magic.
Being 1/4th of an Anodite, she has the ability to turn into an Anodite, which gives her access to greater strength and magic - but being that she dislikes being thought of as an alien, or an energy being, not to mention the temptation to remain an Anodite is pretty strong, she doesn't like to use it. She would only do so if she felt it was the only way to win a battle, and has turned into an Anodite only 2 or 3 times since discovering her heritage; there is a risk of using her power as an Anodite, for if she transforms into a full Anodite and uses her abilities too long, there is a chance that she will lose her humanity. Both Kevin and Ben have cautioned her not to use her Anodite transformation for long, for obvious reasons.

First person:
[ She should probably be a bit more concerned about being abducted, but the face looking into the device that the Nautilus had provided her is surprisingly calm. ]

Okay, I've been here a few days, and I have a run down on the situation. It's a little...weird, but whatever. How many other people are here who were pulled out of their home worlds into this place? Also, I've been watching the network as much as I can, but I might have missed them. I'm looking for some friends of mine. Ben or Max Tennyson, or Kevin Levin.

[ Okay technically Kevin was the only one to qualify as a friend; the others were family by why split hairs? She leans back from the device as she reaches to turn off the recording, sighing. ]

I guess it'd be too much to hope for to think a Plumber might be here... [ Other than her. After a second, she mentally 'ohs!' and turns the device back on. ]

Sorry, one other thing. I wonder if someone could possibly explain this 'Bending' to me. It seems pretty similar to something back home, with a few key differences. I promise I'm a fast learner, and once I get the basics under my belt I'll manage from there on my own.

Third Person:
To say Gwen was a little out of her element when she was dropped into Nautilus wasn't -quite- accurate. True, she was used to working alongside Ben and Kevin, and occasionally Grandpa Max or other Plumbers when it came to alien worlds. But in this, she was all alone on an unfamiliar planet. It was jarring, but not so jarring she couldn't adapt, and at least the locals - most of them - were more considerate and helpful.

Not having her ability to manipulate the mana or even change into her Anodite form was disquieting, but from what she'd learned, it wasn't lost to her forever. She would just have to train and regain those abilities - it was no different from if she had stopped using her magic for a while. Well, a little different. She wasn't completely helpless though, she could still fight using karate. All the same, Gwen would need all the resources she could muster to defend herself and others. She didn't have Ben and Kevin to watch her back here, and briefly, she wished for the sight of her cocky cousin, or brash Kevin. No - she shook her head briefly, her ponytail swinging like a pendulum with the movement. She couldn't rely on them here - if they showed up, great, but until then, she would have to work on her abilities to become stronger, more capable.

Her stomach growled.

Gwendolyn glanced up, startled at the noise, and checked her watch. "Is it that late already?" She'd been out exploring for a lot longer than she expected. "I'd better get something to eat." Before she fainted from missing breakfast and lunch again. She didn't mind missing meals, really - especially when she was engrossed in something. So long as she grabbed something quick to eat, be it an apple or a doughnut, she was fine. She was more than used to it. But no matter how used to her minimal eating habits, her stomach still demanded something with more sustenance. For once, Gwen opted to cooperate. Now, if she could just Bend something that was actually edible ...
