I could have gone my entire life without ever seeing Kevin Kline standing three feet away, naked except for a diaper made of rags.
That said, the show was pretty good, but since I wasn't familiar with King Lear beforehand, I had a lot of trouble following. In the end, I found myself enjoying the Gloucester subplot more than the main one, which is surprising since I normally love father issues more than sibling issues. I sort of want to turn it around and do a story where Edmund is the good guy, having to deal with a corrupt father and brother (although it would make me sad to do that to Edgar, since he was awesome also), crazy princesses throwing themselves at him (that subplot made me LOL, seriously. Introduce a sexy bastard and these two scheming bitches suddenly turn into lovelorn girls, apparently), and his own ruthlessness...o wait, that would just make him Lelouch, whut.
I felt like such a philistine for not being able to follow Shakespeare. :( But at least I wasn't as bad as the guy sitting next to me. Which leads me to my next point: for all that it wasn't a bad performance, my theater experience was pretty crappy. For one thing, I had a cold and every so often I had to blow my nose, and I tend to do that loudly, and I felt really bad about it. :[ For another, although we were in the first row (hence the actors occasionally passing within touching distance of us, although fortunately not Kevin Kline in his crazydiaper), we were also way at the edge and therefore had a rather obstructed view. If something happened on the second level of the stage, it was often mostly out of our sight. Fortunately, most of the really big stuff happened on the lower level.
Also, that thing about Sondheim doing the score? There were a few chimes, and the Fool sang some broken a capello stuff. They were only flashing Sondheim's participation around online to draw in more people. He did maybe forty-five minutes of work on the whole thing. Bah. Just to add insult to injury, he attended the Saturday night performance. And we went to the Sunday matinee. :[
But the real WTF thing came when I noticed that the guy sitting next to me would often start to nod off. That weirded me out. I mean, sure, it wasn't easy to follow, but seriously, when you've paid upwards of a :hundredbux: to get fast-sold-out tickets to an exclusive Public Theater performance of King Lear, you do not nod off in the middle of it. But I noticed that he always managed to catch himself before falling asleep, so I figured that hey, couldn't be that bad.
Then, the play gets to the big climactic scene where everyone falls over dead (you know it's a Shakespeare tragedy when at least two people, and preferably upwards of four, wind up sprawled in a lifeless heap on the stage in the final scene), and...I hear a light snoring coming from next to me. Not only did this guy fall asleep in the front row during the climax, but he's snoring.
Fortunately, it was a quiet snore, so hopefully it wasn't too disruptive. I just hope the actors didn't notice. :/ I would have elbowed him awake, but I was so shocked I didn't know what to do.
Anyway, when we got home I proceeded to do pretty much nothing except WTF at the goings-on at LJ. Oh, and LOL at the Bleach anonymeme.
I watched tonight's Dresden Files. My least favorite episode so far. I could go into the reasons why, but I don't feel like it. Maybe later.
Also, I updated my
Cagalli claim with three icons that were previously caught in icontest limbo and made some sparkly Kallen icons for
ew_younerd. Maybe I'll make more icons tomorrow, I don't know. We'll see.
Also, I need Geass 17 yesterday. God, Euphemia looks so hot in that episode.
