Zach had been there every day, waiting for some fucking idiot to step up to the damn stage and fail. It infuriated him but there wasn't much he could do because he was no fucking better than the fuckers taking their shots. He didn't get what tied them together and he'd given up on trying because there were people better at that than him.
He'd taken to trying to make sure Tracey was alright and was surprised by how hard she'd taken Luna's disappearance. But they'd become closer over the past few days and found strength in one another.
Still, every day they were here and when he saw the blonde bitch with the big tits step up to the stage, he didn't hold out much hope. But then she began to speak and he frowned, knowing she was onto something. Finally, she ended it and then the fucking Herald came out and announced the damn game was done.
When the portal opened, he forced his way through the people gathered and found himself near the front when he saw Luna come out. She looked pale and when he saw her reaction to the light, the noise, he elbowed a man out of the way and ran over to her, pulling her off to the side. "Luna, I'm here." His arms wrapped around her and then he ran his hand through her hair, holding her head close to his chest until she adjusted to the world again.
It seemed like forever since she'd last been held. It brought another bunch of overwhelming sensations: the warmth of his arms, the scent of his skin, the soft growl of his voice. She shuddered, her arms wrapping around him tightly. She buried her face against his chest, wanting nothing but him.
Luna felt his fingers run through her hair and gave a hiccupping sob. It had only been twelve days. She had spent months in that dark dungeon in the Malfoy manor, and it had done her no harm. These twelve days had defeated her. The combination of memories, boredom and sheer lack of communal compassion had undid her.
"I want to go home." She wanted nothing more than to hide away in the safety of Zach's embrace, in the security of the knowledge that she was loved, and that she was now safe. Luna's hands clenched into fists, taking handfuls of his jacket with it. "Take me home, Zach."
Zach focused on Luna, forgetting everything else for a moment as he held Luna close, knowing that she needed this comfort more than anything right now. She seemed to be in good shape physically, even if she felt as if she'd lost some weight. It had been far too long without her and he sighed as he felt her crushed against his chest, even through her trembling sobs because he knew she was there and he could care for her.
"Right." He answered quietly as he pulled away. "A good bath, a meal and our bed then. Not necessarily in that order." When she pulled on his jacket, he took her hands away, smiling down at her before he said, "I missed you so much, Luna." He kissed her forehead, then asked, "Were you treated okay? Are you hurt?"
Luna let out a sigh, the weight of his arms around grounding her back to earth. She still couldn't bear to open her eyes and look at the light, not even to look at him, but the roaring noise around her fell down to a reasonable level, and the only thing she could hear was the sound of his voice, his breathing. Slowly, she stopped crying, just trying to focus on one thing at a time.
He pulled away from her, and she shut her eyes even tighter, not ready to look, not even at him. Not out here in the bright sunshine. It was just too much. She focused on his voice, nodding her head. "All of that, in that order." Her hands latched on to his tightly, groping blindly for that anchor she so desperately needed. "I missed you too. So much." He came closer again, and she went back to clinging, burying her face against his chest again.
"We were treated all right. I'm not hurt." It was hard to explain the sort of non-existence she had been leading for the past twelve days. The greyness of it all. "We all slept on cots, and there weren't any windows."
He needed to get her out of here but he didn't want to let go. But he understood that she wanted something familiar away from the crowd and noise. "We're going, love. I'm going to take care of you." He was glad that Tracey had apparated ahead to get things ready and when he took Luna home, there would be a bath drawn and food prepared.
Zach made a note to take another week off of work to care for Luna and see her back to health. "I'm glad they did." He frowned and shook his head knowing how much Luna loved the sunlight. "We need to go walk after you're recovered. I missed that with you." Zach had so much to say and felt he had to get it out at once. But he still hadn't asked the most important question and as he prepared to apparate, he touched her belly and smiled. "Is our baby, okay?"
It was important to him but first and foremost, he needed to get Luna home and with a sudden crack, he apparated them back to their flat.
Luna nodded and buried herself more tightly against him. She was glad that they were going home, the promise of their flat with curtains that would close and a bed that was soft and she could stretch out on so very wonderful. She nodded again at his promise of a walk, but the sun was too much for her even to consider at the moment. It hurt to even think about.
When his hand slid down to her belly though, she took more interest. Her hand let go of his shirt, and slid down to cover his. She led his hand over her belly, letting him feel the soft swell that was starting to show in her belly, letting him feel the changes. "The baby is fine, I think."
Then, thankfully, he took them home, where it was safe.
