Alicia’s eyebrows knitted together. Katie wasn’t usually this uncertain about herself, or her future family for that matter. Of course, Alicia had pretty much grown up with her mother-in-law-to-be as a second mum, so she already knew her, while Molly Weasley had pretty much only been one they had heard about, rather than actually met…
“If Molly Weasley has just the slightest hint of sense in her, she’ll love you,” Alicia tried by expressing her honest feeling about this. “Why would she hate you?” She looked to where George was standing, seemingly explaining something that looked rather sneaky. “Look at him now, and then think about what he looked like before you two finally smartened up and realized what was going on.”
She sent Katie a smile. “She’d better not hate you, or Ang and I’ll have to set her straight.” With a wink she puffed up her chest trying to look intimidating, though immediately gave up and slumped back down next to Katie. All she’d really managed, was to prove to herself, that her boobs had grown… which she already knew. “And as for the wedding…” she shook her head. “No plans yet,” she held up her hand and wiggled her fingers, before she chuckled; “haven’t even found a ring yet. We’ve both been working on getting our places ready to open, and so one day’s just sort of taken the next,” nearly four months passing without me realizing it, “and no other plans than actually getting married at some point soon, then nothing.”
Katie couldn't help but smile and feel warm at Alicia's determined confidence in her. "I don't know. I suppose I'm just a bit nervous about the whole thing." She shrugged. "I just, I never thought I'd be in the situation where I'd be meeting the family."
Impulsively, Katie leaned over and hugged Alicia. "I'm quite happy for you." And she was. Alicia and Oliver deserved happiness. They'd both been through so much and Katie was sure that they'd be able to workout anything that came their way.
She sighed. "I hope Mrs. Weasley doesn't want us to have a big wedding." Well, if Molly found out she was pregnant, she was sure there wouldn't be anytime to plan a wedding.
Katie’s hug surprised Alicia. She hadn’t expected it at all, and for a moment it made her blush and stuttered; “Th-thank you, I’m happy for you, too” before she hugged her back.
“I hope that Mrs. Weasley will like you right from the start,” she said and gave Katie’s shoulder a squeeze before she let go of her completely. “And if a small wedding is what you want, then that’s what you should have. Of course, I can mention at least two witches who’d be more than happy to be there, but… it’s your choice, Bells.”
Katie smiled. "My mum used to tell me that what you thought was your wedding, was, in fact, the mother's wedding." She shrugged. "Of course Mrs. Weasley has gone through two already."
Yawning again, Katie took a sip of her water and rested her head against the wall. "Of course you and Ang will be there," she said tiredly. "You're my family."
Katie’s tiredness really worried Alicia now. She had never seen her like this, except when she had been down with the flu or cold back at Hogwarts. “Then as your family, Ang and I will back you up so you get the wedding you want,” she stated as she reached out and touched the back of her hand to Katie’s forehead. Okay, she wasn’t running a fever, which was good. Maybe she and George had just not gotten enough sleep last night. It happened, she knew that, and could now better relax.
“Your family…” Alicia chewed on her lips. It warmed her to hear Katie say that, and in all honesty; she had always seen Katie more as a sister than a friend, same as Angelina. Of course, Angelina, despite always being supportive, seemed to not be entirely certain about what Alicia had with Oliver, which… Katie had never seemed to have a problem with. “Make a deal with you, Bells?” she started and leaned back against the wall staring straight ahead of her. “I’ll have your back when it comes to Molly Weasley, make sure she doesn’t take over everything completely, and you have my back when I tell Angelina I’m pregnant?”
Katie couldn't help but smile at Alicia's mothering. "I'm not sick," she said, opening her eyes. She squeezed Alicia's hand, silently thanking her for her unerring support and love. It was comforting to know that there were people who understood. "Just tired..."
She felt Alicia sort of tense up and glanced over to see her friend staring straight at the wall. Her initial reaction to Alicia's announcement was stunned disbelief. Somehow, their lives had suddenly begun to mirror one another. "It must be catching," she murmured, staring at her feet. "I suppose Ang wouldn't try to curse two pregnant friends..."
Two pregnant friends… Alicia stopped breathing for just a moment as Katie’s words made sense. A short laugh escaped her. No wonder Katie was looking worse for wear then. Katie, no doubt, was pregnant the real way, and in three months’ time she would be showing like a real pregnant girl did at that point. Another chuckle escaped her and soon she was laughing for real, feeling more relieved and relaxed than she had since around this time yesterday, when she had simply sat down for a spicy chicken sandwich and had ended up finding out her life was about to change. “No… two pregnant friends would be too many for her to curse at once,” she agreed and nodded before she turned her head to look at Katie.
“Really?” she asked with a bright grin. “You too, for real?”
Her laugh was infectious and Katie smiled. "About as real as it gets. About twelve weeks along and starting to show." She shrugged. "Twins."
She glanced towards George. "What else would I have expected from one of them." Katie's eyes were worried and she gnawed on her bottom lip. "I haven't told George yet, that it's twins I mean. Somehow, it just seems surreal."
Sighing, she placed a hand on the small bump. "I'm hoping the second trimester is better then this one has been." She stifled another yawn. "Is Oliver excited?"
”Twins?” Alicia had to struggle really hard not to sigh with relief. It wasn’t until now that she thought about that point to this. The Healer had only seen one, but now that she thought about it, with her having a set of twins for brothers, as well as her mum and her mum both being twins, she should have considered that. Thankfully now she didn’t have to worry about that, and she wasn’t certain how she would have dealt with that. “Of course it’s twins,” she stated sympathetically, “they don’t do anything half, either of them, do they?”
Unconsciously she mirrored Katie’s movement and put her hand on her still flat, now just a bit softer, tummy. “Oliver’s… still baffled, but happy, I think,” she said honestly, “we only just found out, as in… yesterday.” She grew quiet again. Katie apparently had taken all the hardships of pregnancy compared to her. “So… can’t really tell you if second trimester is easier than the first.” She glanced over at Katie. “Fourteen weeks, so I missed the entire first trimester.”
"That they don't," she murmured. She tugged at her hair, twirling the ends around her finger. She couldn't help but smile and roll her eyes. Baffled would be the perfect word to describe what she would've thought Wood's reaction would be.
"I think I hate you just a bit," she said, teasingly. "I've had morning sickness, afternoon sickness, night sickness, not to mention feeling so incredibly tired that I can barely make it through dinner." She sighed a bit forlornly. "I'm too tired to have sex."
Katie grew quiet as she thought about what she had read. "Evidently we're supposed to start glowing." She eyed Alicia. "You do look a bit glowyish." She nodded. "Yes. I hate you."
”Pff,” Alicia snorted. ”You have a bump,” she chuckled. Now that she knew and now that Katie was resting her hand on it, she could see that there was a definite bump. “And I’m not glowyish. If I were, it wouldn’t have taken me this long to figure out, because then I would have had at least some alert as for what was going on. Oliver’s mum pretty much told me what was going on, but that wasn’t until yesterday. You, however, just need some sleep, and as soon as your sickness goes down, you’ll be glowing like crazy. You always do.”
She sent Katie a teasing smile. Somehow it felt good, almost cathartic to banter their miseries to each other like this. “Hate you, too,” she slipped out the corner of her smile.
"Going to have more then a bump," she sighed. "I'm going to be huge." Her eyes brightened. "When my mum was pregnant with me she didn't really gain anywhere but her bloody uterus." Turning she smiled at Alicia. "Maybe I'll be that lucky."
Katie stood up and stretched, black dots appeared before her eyes and she sat back down. "I'm rather glad I'm not going through this alone."
She glanced over. "What do you think Ang is going to say?"
When Katie seemed to sway a bit, Alicia put a hand on her elbow as she sat back down again. “Why would you be going through this alone?” Alicia asked, slightly confused by what Katie could mean by it.
“My mum says she was huge with both the twins and me,” she sighed. “I don’t know. Just seems… wrong somehow, that there’s nothing but big boobs in this.” She glanced over at Katie. “I’m your size up there now.” The comment was made with a teasing tone to it, knowing the comments that had come from Katie on it years earlier when she had started developing. “Ang will… Ang will be shocked, I think, then she’ll say that she’s happy, and then she will offer to find us new blokes who are worthy of us. Probably ask to never have to change a poobie diaper. Or… she’ll be a mother hen, or she will be disappointed.” She looked regretfully at Katie. “Sorry, babe, but I honestly don’t know. Wish I did, though.”
Katie glanced down at her own breasts and then at Alicia's. She was just grateful hers hadn't become any larger. Yet. Sighing again Katie shrugged. "Not alone...but, well you know. I don't think a bloke could ever understand this and whether they're there or not..." She shrugged gracefully. "It sometimes feels alone."
She listened to what Alicia had to say and nodded. No one ever really knew how Ang would react. Katie had always felt a little distant from the two, being a year younger, especially after they left but Alicia, with her genuine concern had always been easier to be close to. With Ang, it was different. She was, in a sense, a leader and had always seemed a bit aloof.
"Auntie Ang will probabaly never change a diaper."
”Auntie Ang?” Alicia chewed on that one a bit. “I’ve been thinking of her as Auntie Lina, simply to be more obnoxious. I know she’ll hate that one.” Alicia loved Angelina, like a sister, always had, but even she had to admit that there were points with Angelina that she too wasn’t certain about. She did, however, know that nothing about Angelina was malicious or intented to be.
“You’re not alone,” Alicia continued, “and yes, now that I know what you mean, then I’m glad I’m not alone either. George and Oliver can both be dense, so I think we can both use a hand in getting through to them on some points, eh? And Ang, she’ll come around. She’s outnumbered. She’ll have to give in and indulge us.”
"I think anything with the word 'Auntie' attached to it is bound to drive her just a bit mental." Katie suddenly had this mental picture of Angelina fifty years from now, her hair peppered with grey and that same determined look on her face as she tried to reign in her own children.
"I suppose so," she said, her eyes sad. She should be happy but right now, Katie felt trapped and scared. She thought about asking Alicia, but something was holding her back. She wasn't ready to divulge that just yet. "Are you scared at all? Or has it not sunk in yet?"
