RP: The Running of the Maze (5th Festival)

The Entity stood alone on a small hillock overlooking the vast space where today’s festival would take place. Across the way, in the middle of the verdant field stood the maze, the centerpiece of today’s activities. It was pleased with the parameters of today’s event, a test of relationships, one in which lovers and friends would find themselves pitted against their partner’s greatest fears. They would need to overcome them and fight from an opposing end to find their chosen one in the middle of the maze.
It was diabolical in its own way yet no one was to be harmed from the activities during the festival, even if the manifestations of their partner’s fears were very palpable and real. If there were any injuries, the Entity had set wards to heal by the following day and it expected only minor scrapes and bruises to occur despite the problems that would be encountered since charms had been set to halt the visions from truly affecting anyone.
A true test of relationship that would test not only the person’s resolve but also their desire to overcome and their implicit knowledge of the person with which they are paired. It had been difficult work to layer the spells necessary to make this event a success and it had spent long nights here, making sure the magic was in place and were set in a passive mode so they would not become active until they were needed.
The Entity could feel the magic around town beginning to build. It had begun to occur last night as the anticipation built and it could feel the nervous tension fraught in the air. This festival would allow it to gather so much power to itself and it would be able to do so much more behind the Door with this new source of energy and it looked forward to the world beyond where it understood the nature of the world better than it did here among the mortals.
It wandered down toward the maze, watching as the first people arrived. The Entity felt oddly vulnerable as it weaved through the sparse crowd. People knew it now and that made it even more suspicious of the mortals. It felt the urge to scan the crowd gathered but resisted because of its promise it had made. This frustrated it even more and as it approached the maze, it sighed and warily looked for anyone who it might know while it waited for the festivities to begin.
