Date: 21 April 2003 Characters: Barr Dunstan, Fleur Weasley, Gregory Goyle, Lily Potter, Severus Snape and Su Li Location: The Hospital-to-be building Status: Semi-Private Summary: Time to step it up Completion: Incomplete
Su strode to the place that the meeting was. She wasn't particularly in a hurry. She wasn't late, but she couldn't wait to get there. She was excited. Not the unsure, anxiety-filled excitement as of late (or what she tried to convince herself was excitement), but the real kind. The kind of excitement that had moving fast, wanting to get to her destination as soon as she could. It was a nice change that was for sure

The sound of the door closing had Barr look up from her mug, to see Su enter the room. “Su!” she said with a smile, genuinely glad to see her there. “I’m glad you could make it.” She gestured to the table and the chairs. “You are the first one here, but please, sit down, have some tea while we wait. I’m sure the others will be here soon enough.”
Barely had she finished, before the door opening alerted her to somebody else arriving.
"Hi," Su answered in a happy voice. instead of approaching her friend, she went to where the tea and mugs were. Someone else was coming in, and she was sure that she shouldn't try to have a conversation with Barr until everyone had agreed.
She made herself tea, grateful that Barr had remember to offer tea alongside the coffee since she hated the stuff. Holding her mug in front of her, she breathed in the familiar scent as she turned to see who else had came.
Lily entered the room a bit hesitantly, uncertain of whether this was the right place. It wasn't every day one would go to a place where a future hospital would be. But she was excited to meet the others involved. Honestly, she didn't know what to expect. She knew Severus was going to be here, they had talked about it before, but she had come right after work and hadn't seen him on the way.
She was looking forward to beginning this project. It took her mind of other things and it inspired her to work harder and study more to become a better Healer. But she knew she was going to make a few screw ups along the way as long as she still studied under Mungo. But at least, he was saying that she was making good progress.
She spotted two people inside the room, one who she knew was Barr and the other she had never seen before. Walking over to them, she smiled at the two. "Too early?"
“Nie, nie,” Barr assured Lily, extending her hand to her as she approached her to welcome her in. “You are not too early. I just came here ahead of time.”
She sent Lily a smile before she directed her towards the table. “Lily, please meet Su Li,” she looked at Su, “Su, this is Lily Potter. Hopefully the last three will be here soon, but please,” she looked back to Lily, “do sit down, and have something to drink if you’d like.”
Lily shook Barr's hand with another smile and a nod. Then she looked at the other woman, Su. "Pleasure to meet you." She extended her hand again to greet her as she studied the young woman trying to get an impression of what she was like.
Then she glanced at Barr again. "Three? Who are the last two? I know Severus is coming... And I'd love some tea, just got off from work." Lily reached for the tea pot and poured herself a cup as she sat down.
"Pleasure to meet you, ma'am," Su said, her old habit of diplomatic politenesses kicking in automatically at the introduction to a stranger. She shook Lily's hand. She had no clue who else was coming, and the knowledge that this was Lily Potter, who everyone knew about as much as they knew of Harry Potter himself, didn't faze her. A woman was a woman.
She'd mingled with foreign diplomats that some people would treat as celebrities. This wasn't new to her, so she pasted on a smile and head her tea with one hand.
Severus stalked along the street with a scowl on his face. He'd gotten caught up in a tricky piece of brewing and lost track of time. It was something he'd noticed happening a little too recently. Perhaps it was because of he no longer needed to be at any one place at any particular time. He wasn't sure whether he was pleased about that or not. Though if this host of their was an inimitable as had been suggested, it was a lazy habit he would have to lose again.
He walked into the building that would be the hospital in a swirl of robes and nodded to the women present. His expression softened a touch when he saw Lily and he even managed a tiny smile for her as he walked over and sat down next to her.
"Lily," he murmured in greeting.
He then turned to Barr. "My apologies, Miss Dunstan. I am afraid my brewing consumed me." He pulled out a battered and potion-spotted folder and placed it on the table. Opening it revealed several pieces of parchment with lists and timetables on them.
Fleur sat quietly beside Barr after making herself a cup of coffee just in the nick of time before Monsieur Snape billowed into the room. She recalled her final year in school, spent at Hogwarts, and how her younger self would never have thought about the fact that one day, in the future, she would be working on a project alongside one of her former teachers. Strange, to think of the faculty at Hogwarts that year as her own professors.
She sipped her coffee, watching his approach and greeting, nodding to him in return, studying his actions and facial expressions carefully.
Wait for it...wait for it...
And there it was.
Right...
there!
Monsieur Snape smiled at Lily Potter before moving to sit beside the red-haired older younger woman.
"Come to think of it", Fleur pondered as her attention went to Madam Potter, "Ginny bears an uncanny resemblance to this woman." Fleur tried to think of the name of an old Muggle play she once read about a Greek boy and his mother, but could not remember it. Then Fleur's mind quickly switched

”I’m glad you could make it,” Barr said sending the Potions Master a genuine smile. She was glad he had made it, since his input in this was as valuable as any of the other people’s in this room.
Still she couldn’t help but wonder how it would go. She knew Su hadn’t been too fond of the Potions Master in school, as was the case with most of the people she knew. Fleur… she didn’t know how she would react, but Gregory Goyle - she figured - wouldn’t mind him being here. Now, if only he would get here. Hopefully nothing untoward had happened to him.
Lily looked up and smiled back at Severus as he sat down beside her. Muttering to him softly, Lily threw in a small smirk. "Why doesn't surprise me, Severus?" But her expression softened as she looked at him and she settled back into her chair with her cup of tea. She couldn't help herself, she was happy to see him.
She looked at the others, now they were only missing one person and she wondered who it was. Lily knew about Fleur, Severus and Su being part of this joint venture.
Greg hurried down the street, juggling plans, costing estimates and a small box of samples. He'd wanted to be prepared for whatever happened tonight but now he just wished he'd remembered to set some kind of alarm. He'd gotten caught up in his work and hadn't had time to clean up much when he'd finally realised the time

Severus arched an eyebrow as a very familiar face came hurrying in, his arms full. Gregory Goyle was still very recognisable even though he'd grown to an almost ridiculous height and filled out to the point of being a large and potentially intimidating man. He was also covered in sawdust and a few stray wood shavings and Severus found he was curious about what his former student had been up to. Certainly from the way he was acting and talking, Goyle had made some significant and commendable changes in his life. He had always been one of those students that he suspected he'd lost to the pressures of their fathers and the Dark Lord

Su turned when Professor Snape walked in the door, followed closely by a man she didn't know. She frowned for a moment, but pasted on a smile quickly.
"Hello Professor Snape," she greeted him in a perfectly even voice. She didn't know what else to call him. He was her professor for so many years most other titles would seem wrong.
She turned her gaze behind him. To the other man. She didn't know. She didn't know the blond woman either. Merlin, I don't know anyone. Please tell me they don't all know each other. Please tell me they only know Barr. She really didn't want to be the only one who didn't know the others. If she was, she'd have to spring into diplomat mode for the whole duration of the meeting. She didn't really want that.
As much as she tried, a relieved breath escaped Barr when Gregory stepped through the door. Not only did that mean that nothing had happened to him, but it also meant that they could get started, on all aspects tonight. He looked stressed though, and the apologetic tone in his voice, made her feel concerned about him. Even more so when she heard the yelp he gave when he addressed Professor Snape. Okay, so maybe he wouldn’t be so comfortable with the Potions Master present.
As she stood up, she gestured for him to take a seat, and with a soothing hand on his shoulder, she sent him a smile. “I’m glad you could make it, Gregory,” she told him, before she cleared her throat and gathered the parchment she had brought for tonight
Now that everybody was here and seated, Barr didn’t want to waste any more time. They still had a lot of work ahead of them, so better to get started as soon as possible. Tapping the stack of parchment into a neat pile, she looked around at the other four people

With a small wave of her wand she floated three pieces of parchments to each of the people by the table. “As it is, we have four floors to work with. You will find floor plans for first, second and third floor in front of you. The basement is one big room, and I have not been able to find or do a floorplan for that. And tak, I have more, so do not worry about making notes or drawing on the ones I’ve just given you.” Realising that she hadn’t put out quills and ink, she summoned her purse and fished out everything she had along the lines of pens, quills and highlighters, leaving a rich supply on the table for everybody to borrow if need be.
“As you can see, everything is still empty. Nothing has been assigned.” With another wave of her wand she passed out the list of wards that would be in the hospital. “Lily, I know you have this list already,” she apologized, “but I hope you don’t mind. So… what we are here to do tonight, is get all of us working on this. Gregory, I am hoping that you will work with each of the people here to make

Su was the first to speak. Listening to Barr's well thought out plans she felt a surge of happiness. Barr was really thinking this through. Barr was known to think things true, it was true. But this... this was amazing. Su almost didn't believe it
( ... )
Severus glanced over the plans briefly, getting a feel for the proposed layout of the place as he listened to Barr and then Su Li. Much of it was not anything he needed to know though he was interested to hear that Goyle had become a carpenter and obviously a competent one if Barr was choosing to use him for the building work. He gave the young man a nod of approval, pleased that at least one of his serpents from that year had made something of themselves
