"Oh, I know." He said quietly and swallowed hard. "It's tough to relive but I can feel it fading because you're here with me." George smiled, a bit more brightly than after she'd kissed him. "I've never really talked about Fred dying because it hurt too much. So I stored it away for years. I thought I could drink it away but that didn't work, so I just isolated myself from others."
"I can share these things with you, Katie and I need to thank you for that." He stopped and leaned his forehead against hers. "You know, you can tell me anything too. Oddly enough, even though I'm a chatty bastard, I listen well." George pulled away slightly and smiled, "I hope you remember that, Katie, because we've got a lifetime of being together." He winked. "Or that's my plan."
"If these walls could talk, Fred and I would be thoroughly beat by Dumbledore with a rubber wand." George smiled and then led her inside, hearing the echo of his voice in the empty hallway. "I'd like to see it come back one day because I think Wizarding Britain needs it and you know..." He glanced over at Katie. "I want to send our children here, you know?"
He was almost glad of the distraction when he heard the sound of metal striking stone and the loud creaks and groans of rusted armor. George had an idea of what was happening and took Katie's hand again. "McGonagall set the all the wards." He said excitedly and looked behind them, seeing the long stretch of shadows approaching and realizing that the Knights of Hogwarts were behind them too. Pulling Katie's arm, George took off toward the Great Hall while saying. "Well, library's out for now. Trying to stay alive is most definitely in."
George stopped suddenly and looked at Katie. "By the way, will you marry me? Tell me later okay? You can think about it while we try to keep our pretty arses alive." He didn't wait for an answer before he took off with Katie in tow.
Katie pulled him close, resting her head in the crook of his shoulder. "I'm sorry I wasn't there for you," she said, her voice muffled in his shoulder. Everyone was so distant and torn apart by what happened that they'd all seemed to close up. Their bond had been torn apart and yet had managed to put itself back together. True love and friendship survived even the worst of times, even without being physically there.
A lifetime together. That sounded wonderful. She pulled away and kissed his jaw. "I know I can," she said. She knew that they'd always be able to talk, to share and cherish their memories with one another. They had entirely too much history not to. Her stomach flip-flopped and her breath hitched when he mentioned children. It was something she'd never thought about. Children. With George. The loud bangs pulled her out of her thoughts and she heard a whistling noise before pushing them against the wall as something whizzed past them.
"Blood hell," she said, glancing over her shoulder. George pulled her and they took off at a run towards the Great Hall. A loud clattering sound caught her attention as a spear was thrown towards them. It fell short of its mark but was still entirely too close for comfort. Her heart was pounding and a sense of exhilaration was coursing through her blood. She came to a dead stop, jerking him to one as well.
There were more Knights gathering in front of them and Katie pointed to the stairs. "That way," she said, her voice excited. She wasn't quite sure why they stopped and she pulled out her wand. "Protego", she cried, shielding them from the debris.
George's words stopped her cold and her shield wavered. Her eyes widened in shock and surprise at his next words. Will you marry me. They played over and over in her head and if it was at all possible, her heart rate sped up even more. "I-" she started, subsequently cut off as he pulled her out of harms way and took off at a run. They hurried through the halls, getting closer and closer to the Great Hall. Her mind was numb and an overwhelming sense of happiness had clouded her head. Married. To George.
"Yes!" she shouted, over the clanking suits as they continued to duck the rocks and whatever else the armor could find. "I'll marry you."
It was the toilet seat flying past his head that made George pause before a spear skittered between his legs, throwing up sparks as it struck the stone floor. "I never thought our second date would turn out like this." George grinned at Katie and then took off again as a spoon came flying by his head being chased by a fork. It was surreal being with the woman he loved while being chased by suits of armor who were tossing everything but the..." The kitchen sink flew by them then.
Really, he should have been upset, panicked, worried for Katie but they were together and somehow, he knew that they'd be alright. He watched as she threw up a Protego spell and assorted debris splattered against it. "Fuck, Bell you're beautiful when your fighting. Remind me to take you thrill seeking more often." He smiled as he ducked just a bit. She was better with a wand than him and he didn't have a problem with that because in a pinch, he knew he could count on her.
He followed her up the stairs, feeling the well of excitement that seemed to course between them. George didn't know exactly what led him to propose but in he and Katie's crazy ride of a relationship, it just felt right and he didn't think either of them would go for much pomp and circumstance of a traditional proposal. Anyway, adrenaline made people do crazy things, like propose to the woman you've loved since you were a kid really while running away from suits of armor animated to come to life.
As they approached the Great Hall, George saw two suits of armor pull off the wall ahead of them, blocking their path. While George was just decent with Defense Spells, he did know a plethora of prank spells that seemed to come in handy. "Come on, you wanke..I mean suits of armor wankers!" Screaming at the suits of armor, he waited for them to charge before he cast a spell and watched the Knights go head over heels, clattering to the floor in pieces when they hit his tripping spell.
George chuckled and then listened as Katie accepted his proposal. His heart surged but he stayed on the task at hand, taking hold of Katie's arm and yanking her into an alcove one of the Knights had vacated. "I was going to sex you up and then ask you but this worked out just as well." He smirked and then kissed her with a rare passion...considering they were being chased by a hundred suits of armor. George pulled her deeper into the alcove when their kiss ended and popped through another tunnel, hitting a slide with her in his arms that twisted and turned until they came out in a small classroom. He stood and then reached out, pulling Katie up while he grinned. "We're down the hall from the library now, Ms. Future Katie Weasley."
