An entry filled with happy thoughts for once

Mar 18, 2012 09:54

On one hand, my plan to spend March virtuously sitting at home at my Dad's place, saving money, looking for jobs, tidying my room, reading deep books and thinking pure thoughts isn't really working out as I'd planned.

On the other hand, I am having a lovely weekend this weekend.

adze came down to see me yesterday and we had an awesome day. We went to a nice pub near my Dad's, with a wood burning stove, and sat by the fire, drinking and chatting, and eventually getting lunch. Then we went out wandering, heading up to White Horse Hill, which we ambled around, before heading back to the car park to get ice cream from the ice cream van. For some reason, half the people up there yesterday were dressed in Very Serious Walking Clothes (tm), and kept looking at us somewhat funny, as we bounced around in normal shoes and jeans. We, in turn, I suspect threw them slightly perplexed looks as I'm not sure it really takes walking boots, thick woolly socks, walking trousers tucked into your boots and socks, a woolly hat and walking stick to get from the car park to Uffington Castle. I can only presume they were heading on along the Ridgeway afterwards. I hope they were, anyway, otherwise I despair a little a the human race.

Afterwards, we went back to mine and talked a bit about Warcraft, LARP, life, the universe and everything. And then I agreed to drive him back to Hatfield, as I was heading to Cambridge to see hardwired. This would have been a far easier proposition if the M4 hadn't been closed between junctions 8 and 10 due to an accident. However, I made it in the end, and spent yesterday evening with Jason, gossiping and eating awesome spicy lentil curry before crashing out in the spare room. Where he'd made the bed with purple silk sheets.

He insists he didn't invite me here to seduce me. As he wasn't actually playing Barry White on the stereo as he showed me through to the spare room, I choose to believe him.

And now it is morning, I am awake, and am bimbling on Jason's laptop playing with e mail and doing a job app. I'm feeling positive today - my boss at the current temp job has offered to write me a glowing reference, which I think will be helpful. My t shirt still smells of wood smoke from the pub fire yesterday, which makes me oddly happy. Wood smoke, it turns out, is one of my happy smells. I refuse to believe the world can be all bad when I spent yesterday near an open fire. I may or may not be seeing more people today, and then tomorrow is work, and Tuesday I have a job interview with an agency for a job I would really like with a grant giving body. It's very much first stage, to see if they want to put me forward, but I'm being hopeful.

On a slightly random note, I also wanted to say 'thank you' to all the people in my life who are repeatedly nice to me, even when I don't necessarily deserve it. Special thanks lately go to unifex, becky_spence, bringeroflight, ozisim, faerierhona and hardwired for regularly letting me descend on their houses, eat their porridge and sleep in their beds and for never eating me up in revenge even once, and also eniel, lanfykins, quisalan, chrisvenus and Sue Paris (who may or may not have LJ) for being the lovely local people who have gone out of their way to offer me lovely local social interactions.

There are lots of other people as well, I know, but I wanted to thank those people in particular, because I think sometimes all I do is whinge on here, without being clear that I am being supported, and cared for (or sometimes just endured) and people who do that are cool and awesome.

The world is not a bad place really.

things i love, general life update
